Dead Head

Dead Head

The conversation started with "What do you need to run this load?" and went down hill from there. I was not in a position to use a calculator and when I asked about how much dead head was involved, how much the load weighed, and did it require anything special, once I learned that I gave a price for all miles. Wow I did not expect the anger that quote caused.

The agent did not believe I should be paid for dead head miles when I was not carrying a load. My next comment was do you drive to work? and she replied Yes and I do not get paid to drive to work and you should not expect to get paid to drive when empty to pickup a load.

My next question was do you get paid enough to drive to work? She replied yes it does. Then my next comment was I expect your load to pay enough for me to drive and pick it up. We can do that two ways I can quote you a price for loaded miles only that will then pay enough for me to dead head to the load or I can quote you a price for all miles. The price will be the same though for both ways.

That was about the end of the conversation and no we did not get the load.
