Be SAFE

In 2018 the report I was looking at for the top ten most dangerous jobs lists Truck Driver as number seven.  This is something we do not waste time thinking about but it is always in the back of all of our minds.  Our fault or not our fault our career and business can be ended in a nanosecond.

Each day we maneuver around thousands of smaller vehicles and many larger vehicles all usually in a hurry to get somewhere.  Sometimes I feel like a dinosaur or a very cumbersome something as cars zip around us and in front of us as traffic is coming to a stop.  Not only do we have to pay attention to what we are doing we have to anticipate what everyone else ‘s actions and be ready to react.  One inattentive moment on our part and a car zips in front of us and stops then we tap their bumper and it will all be the truck drivers’ fault.

Each of us drivers is aware of the dangers and when we say good-bye or leave another driver all of saying, “Stay Safe, or Drive Safe”, and we mean it.  Not only is our driving environment not safe we often do not take care of ourselves.  At the end of driving ten and a half hours, we want out of the truck and we want to relax.  I have not found many truck stops where you can go, put your feet up, have a cool drink, and chill for an hour before having dinner.  Usually, we park set the brakes, and head for the truck stop to have some dinner, get a shower, go to bed, and be ready to do it all again the next day.

If you wonder about this hop in a truck for the day as a driver or a rider and it won’t be long before you really understand “Be Safe or Drive Safe”.
