A rare day in the unusual world of an Expediter

We haul freight that sometimes requires using a safe haven for various reasons and this was one of those loads.   The load was picked up on time and was an easy drive to our destination.  The safe haven (secure parking area) was eagerly anticipated as it would be quiet and we would get restful nights sleep.

Our delivery appointment came and went and we were still locked in the gated area with no personnel in sight holding a key.   We called our contact that informed us they were waiting on a launch of some kind and they would send someone to get us as soon as the roads were reopened.   An hour or so later we heard a rumbling noise, saw a trail of vapors and thought nothing of it, the launch had happened.

Another hour passes and we are still locked up with no one coming with a key to unlock the gates.   We call once again to see what has happened.   This is when the story gets interesting.   What ever was launched malfunctioned and exploded and now they have to comb the ground looking for all of the pieces.   We were informed that until all of the fragments from the explosion are collected we will stay locked in our safe haven.  This has to be the one of the most interesting reasons we have had to hold freight on our truck.

We had a scheduled unload time at 6:30 in the morning and nine hours later we were finally back on the road again. We have been held up at docks waiting for receiving to unload us but this was a first, waiting for all of the scattered remains of what had exploded to be recovered.
