A day in the life of an Expediter

What started as a good week within two days everything went downhill with a holiday staring us in the face.   An unusual circumstance for us was to pickup a load on Sunday to be delivered first thing Monday morning.   The timing worked out perfect for us as we had delivered Friday afternoon, which then gave us Saturday to grocery shop, get the truck cleaned up, and get our laundry done before picking up our next load.

We delivered on Monday and due to the nature of expediting we had a 698-mile dead head to pickup our next load.   We hustled through the night and arrived at our customer to find out that the load was not going to ship this day but "lucky us" it would ship tomorrow.   This created a dilemma as we had a pre assigned load with 764 miles dead head on it after delivering first load.   With the first load canceling this put us to far away to get the second load.   So now we are load less....

We discuss our situation and decide everything looks better after a shower and we head for the local TA/Petro.   In the back of our minds knowing that the clock is ticking as there is a holiday this week.   We usually do not get loads on holidays the load gets called in the day before and we stay loaded over the holiday unloading the day following the holiday.

The ding of the Qualcomm sounds with another load offer picking up the next day, which we accept and our day is looking up.   Then another ding of the Qualcomm with another load offer picking up near where we deliver.   Now everything is rosy and once again another load offer with a Monday pickup with a lot of miles.   Perfect all of this is working out.   We go about our business of getting a shower and eating lunch, then heading back out to the truck.

First thing we see is a light on the Qualcomm and we know that this is not a good sign.   Both of the short loads have canceled leaving us with only the Monday load.   This would essentially leave us in a truck stop for six days waiting to pick up our Monday load.   We decide we are close enough to Bob's moms house we are going to dead head so that we can spend time with family over Thanksgiving.    We will wait the ring of the phone and see which way the wind or load will send us next!
