Fuel for Thought
Who knew vacation was such hard work?
New Years Eve will be our 2 year anniversary. We have yet to take a honeymoon, or a vacation in which the van was not being repaired. As I had mentioned in a previous blog, we booked a cruise to the Bahamas in January. We are really excited as it will be time away from the van, no phone calls from dispatch to worry about, and a great escape from the winter snow.
The thing that I am now realizing is that there is so much that goes into a vacation like this. Granted we are not required to have passports since we are leaving from and returning to the same US port, we would like to have them just incase something happens and we end up having to fly back in the the United States, so we are in the process of getting those. We are in the process of shopping for nicer clothes. Most of the time Nick wears jeans and a company t-shirt. Unfortunately that is not appropriate for dinner. On top of that I am having the daunting task of finding a formal dress that I like. We were in a store yesterday, and I told Nick "wow, I must be getting old, all of these dresses are too short, and too flashy." Then I realized I sounded like my grandma when we used to go dress shopping for formals while I was in high school.
Next comes the task of figuring out what to do when we are in port. There are sooo many things to do. Snorkeling, dolphin and sting ray encounters, kyaking, tours, and many many more. Since neither one of us have ever done anything like this before, we are not sure what to pick from. It just seems like there is so much to do and such little time to do it in!
From all of the things that there are to do, it sounds like when we get back I am going to need a vacation from vacation!
