Fuel for Thought
Utah
We were headed to the west coast last week. We were able to take I-80 through Utah and Nevada, which we had never done before. We stopped and drove through downtown Salt Lake City. It was interesting to see how happy everyone that lived there was. The city was clean, and the street workers were trimming and shaping the trees. We also drove by Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was beautiful.

Further down the interstate we came across the Great Salt Lake. I couldn't believe how large it was. After looking at some of the mountains around it I was wondering what this line was that was on all of them so I Googled it. I learned that the line that I was seeing was the remnants or the tide patterns from Lake Bonneville.
The next stop was one of my favorites, The Bonneville Salt Flats. It is somewhere that Nick has talked about going to ever since I met him. We stopped at the rest area that allows you to walk out onto the flats. I couldn't believe how large it was. It just kept going as far as the eye could see.

Bonneville is an exciting place. The history that has taken place there is amazing. The first land speed record set there was in 1914! There have also been numerous movies filmed there, such as Independance Day and Pirates of the Caribbean.
My next few blogs will continue our trip to the coast and down The Pacific Coast Highway.
