Fuel for Thought
US 23

Not a bad week. A decent load from Indiana to Florida and another one from South Carolina to Detroit to close a good week. This load is only a half tall skid of empty totes, so I have room to live with my freight this weekend. I tried to see the South Carolina Artisans Center in Waltersboro while I was waiting for work but duty called.

The load doesn’t deliver to Detroit until Monday, so I am taking the more scenic route. Technically, it is the more direct route, but it isn’t much faster after factoring in terrain and traffic lights. Trucks might not like the hills that resemble Interstate 71 through West Virginia, but a van or motorcycle would love the route in good weather. I still managed to keep my fuel consumption above 21 mpg. It’s four lanes the whole way and not a lot of towns with traffic lights. It doesn’t look like a good road to be on if a Sprinter van were to break down. The photos are from just south of Norton, Virginia. On another trip, I might have to stop in Pikeville, Kentucky to see what the Hatfield-McCoy Feud Historic Site is all about.
