Tax Time and Vacation!
It has been a beautiful weekend around home! I ended up coming home towards the end of last week, and started getting some chores done I had been putting off, including my taxes! Fun stuff! It really is a different ball game when you're self employed, that's for sure. My tax lady tells me she wishes all her clients were as organized as me, and that's really sad.. because I felt like a mad scramble LOL. .I have decided this year, I really want to be even more organized. To tell you the truth, my system is very outdated.. I am sort of a tech geek.. I love messing with computers, gadgets, etc, but when it comes to records, and such.. I like numbers on paper. I don't really know why... but I am more comfortable with printouts, notes on paper, yellow legal pads, etc... all hard copy. I guess it's because I've had computers crash, and lost info. I know it's all in my head.. I do everything else on my computer, but my financial info.. I want on paper where I can hold it.. then I add everything with an old fashioned calculator, not a spreadsheet, and transfer all my numbers to separate sheet for the tax lady. Old habits I guess. Back when I went to college, we learned book-keeping on paper ledgers.. So anyway, my plan is to find a program I like, and start simplifying my book-keeping. I mean, with a van, my accounting is much simpler than say a D-Unit.. I have different deductions, don't have to keep fuel taxes, etc.. but still, I know I could simplify things.
My couple of days home has turned into more. I realized I've been putting some things off, so I decided it's vacation time! I haven't taken a real vacation (more than a couple days, long weekend, etc).. in a couple years... so I"m now out of service til at least next Monday... then I'll decide if I'm ready to go back. That's one great benefit of this job... I need time off, I didn't have to send notification to my department head, co-ordinate with my team leader to make sure no-one else scheduled vacation at the same time (former office workers will get that .. LOL).. and best of all... no 6 week notice! :-)
It's funny, when I worked a "regular job", my vacation plans would have been to plan a trip or something.. but since I travel for a living.. this time.. my break will be staying HOME! LOL... I've already experienced the joy of leaving my cell phone in the bedroom.. and NOT worrying about missing a run! Silly thing I suppose, but kind of a guilty pleasure not to be waiting for The Call!
Since I'm going to be home, I won't have much to blog about... so I'll be taking a break from blogging also for a week or so. See ya soon!
