Giving Back

This year we have been very fortunate in many ways. We paid off our van early, we signed on with a great carrier. My status was deemed to be in remission of cancer, while other family members have beaten as well. We have gotten to spend more time with are families, and have become thankful for many things.

This year we decided for Christmas that we were going to "adopt a family" and help them out for Christmas. A friend of mine has three young boys. She is a single mother, who works a minium wage job working 40+ hours a week, and does not use goverment assitance to help support them. She believes that the assitance should go to someone who needs it more than she does. She does her best to provide them with everything that she can, but due to some unfortunate events Christmas this year was going to be tight.

I had talked to Nick about making them some Christmas ornaments for their tree, as they didn't have very many, and he looked at me and said "Why don't we also buy them some gifts so they have some special things to open Christmas morning." To be honest I think my heart skipped a beat when he said that, and tears welled in my eyes as I could barely mutter out, "That would be wonderful."

We went shopping yesterday, and bought them a bunch of clothes, and a few smaller toys. With the boys growing like weeds, and being messy, its harder for her to keep up with clothes than it is with toys. Nick and I both understand how hard it is being a child and being made fun of for the clothes that you wear.  We still have some more shopping to do for them, and will make sure that they all have snow boots, and warm clothes to play outside in too. That's one of the greatest things about being a kid in Michigan. When we get home we have a lot of wrapping to do from Santa, but it makes me feel wonderful to know that we will be able to touch other's lives and make their Christmas something special.

So while you are out shopping this year, please think of someone else who may be in need. Whether its a small donation, or dropping off a toy for Toys For Tots, know that someone, somewhere needs help.
