Fuel for Thought
Convoy
Saturday was the first annual Great Lakes Convoy for a Cure. The event went wonderful. There were lots of friends, hugs, and tears. When we got up Saturday morning, we were so nervous, as the fog was so thick that you couldn't see anything. We went into town to get coffee and bagels and headed over to the Petro to start decorating our van and our friends truck. Tissue paper flowers, ribbons, streamers, and posters adorned the trucks as we all talked, shared stories, and made donations.
About 11:30 we rolled out of the Petro and headed up to 795. We raised the most money, thanks to the support of Load1, its staff, and drivers, so we were in the lead. As we made our way across town, we all kept in contact over the C.B. When we got onto 75, the support from the community was amazing. The honking of horns as people drove by, the waves, and thumbs up were great.
Half way through the drive I started tearing up. Realizing that all of the trucks behind us were all there in support of finding a cure for the disease that I beat last year was a feeling I can not even begin to describe.
When we arrived back to the Petro there were even more people there. They had followed us, and found us in the parking lot. Lunch was cooked, and everyone had great conversation. Afterwards we all stood on the scale to "Weigh in against cancer." For a donation you could guess the weight of the people for a prize. Then the raffles began, lots of good prizes, and a lot of money was raised.
We had a wonderful time for a great cause!
