Fuel for Thought
Continuing down the coast
When we woke up Monday morning in San Simeon, in was a cool 51* outside! Since it was a state campground the showers were quarter operated. I had never used one before so it was going to be a new adventure for me. I have to say, $1.00 got me 12 minutes of "lava water" as Nick would call it, and some of the best water pressure ever. After our showers we packed up the van and continued on our treck down the coast.
Our first stop was Pismo Beach for breakfast. It was quite nice since we were so much farther south it was a lot less foggy. Once we found the beach and a place to park, we found a little diner, Splash Cafe, for breakfast/lunch, since it was about 11 am local time. We walked in and everyone was eathing clam chowder so Nick had that, and I, always being the safe one, went with a good ol hotdog. It was amazingly delicious, and we were reading the history of the cafe, which had been there since since 1989, almost as long as I have been around.

We made our trip down the little tourist shops along the beach where Nick found chocolate covered crickets. There was NO WAY in heck you could get me to eat one but he did.
We decided to go ahead and take off since our goal was to get down the the Los Angeles area by the evening so we could spend all day Tuesday at the beach. Once again we stopped quite a few times along the way to take pictures of the coastline, and things that we may never see again. Remembering that the sun sets aroudn 7 p.m. or so we decided to stop at the Thornhill Broome Beach Campground.
It was beautiful. We were mere yards from the ocean crashing in against the rocks. About a quarter of a mile down, along the water, we had a nice little beach. We walked down there and started a stroll in the waves. The tide was coming in hard and fast. Unfortunately it washed a rock right into my ankle. A week later it is still quite sore. We walked back to our campsite, lit a fire, and started to watch the sunset. It was one of the most amazing things I have done so far in my life. Sitting there watching the sun set behind a cliff, listening to the waves, next to a campfire.
After the sun went down I was cold and decided I was going to get into bed, since we were going to get up early and head to L.A. in the morning....
