Back In Service

Back in service after taking a little break. What does one do with a week of “leg time”?

Work on the van. Turned the van over to the dealership to have the power steering reservoir replaced.

Exercise. Having a little more space, I managed to run or walk the neighborhood every day. It was no use trying anything outrageous, but it was nice to change the routine.

Books. I finally finished E. O. Wilson’s, Anthill. I started reading it before Thanksgiving and read a chapter here and a chapter there when I could find a library that had the book. It’s a good book. It is the story of a boy’s quest to save a plot of land. Ants take the leading roll for almost half the book. The Pluto Files by Neil DeGrasse Tyson is about how the planet Pluto lost its planethood. In an indirect way, it shows the state of science today. Read it if it’s available. Don’t buy the book and don’t have your library order it. No need to increase the demand and to help fund this sort of flaky science. I also read Fahrenheit 451 and The Home Machinist’s Handbook.

Broader horizons. I’ve been thinking about setting up a hobby sized machine shop, so I started pulling together the information to study machining and cnc machining. I found good introductory material for learning the code for cnc machines.

Paperwork. No more paperwork for taxes. Everything is separated and tallied for when I catch up with the W-2’s and the other tax forms. At this point, only another hour, and 2012 taxes will be finished. The van is a couple pounds lighter with a years worth of papers transferred to archive.

Phone play. I rooted my phone. Titanium Backup and ES File Explorer are helping me to eliminate those pesky apps that I couldn’t uninstall before I rooted the phone. The goal is a lean, mean dialing machine.
