A crane to unload a van?
Last night we unloaded at a power plant. We had to back up inside of the facicilty. I did not see anyway that a forklift could come in behind us, so I was wondering how we were going to be unloaded. I was looking around taking in just how large everything in the plant was. As I was doing that I kept seeing signs warning you not to walk if you saw the flashing lights from the crane. I was thinking a crane, like the big huge ones you sometimes see driving down the road.
Nick then called me to the back to come watch how they were going to unload us. A giant remote controlled yellow crane slowly started moving across the cieling. When it was above our back doors the gentleman unloading us made the hand signals to have the chains and slings dropped down. They then proceeded to wrap the straps through that skid and around the box. They lifted it slightly, and moved it back out of the van. They then walked it across the room and lifted it up with ease.
Our load was only 330 pounds. We asked about the crane, they said that it can lift up to 440,000 pounds. Thats huge! I don't even know what to compare that to. It was just interesting, to say the least to watch them use this huge piece of machinery to take out this little box!
