A bit of a delay

It turns out while we were snorkeling in Nassau I contracted fungal bronchitis by inhaling the "red tide" algae. I was in an area in which I was all alone, and started to panic. In doing so I inhaled some sea water, and it contained this certain type of alage. By the end of the day I was sneezing and coughing, and not feeling too great. I had attributed it to the ocean being a bit cold, and thinking maybe I just had a slight cold. Wednesday I dealt with it just fine, but by Thursday morning I was not doing so well and started horrifically coughing. Saturday I eneded up going to the doctors because I was running a fever of almost 102, and was worried that I had something really bad. The doc said I had fungial bronchitis and was placed on antibiotics that treat Malaria and Anthrax, an inhaler, steriods and cough syrup. Today I feel much better but am still sick.

I started doing some reading yesterday afternoon, and found that the southwestern part of Florida, random parts of the keys, and the Bahamas are being affected by the red tide algae. While we were there it was just starting to move in. Some of the beaches in Nassau, including the are in which we snorkeled, are shut down and fish are washing ashore dead. It is quite a brutal life form. It depleated the oxygen from the water, the fish become disorriented, suffocate and die. It swept the Bahamas in the 1930's and killed the "sponging" business that flourished, by extenguishing the natural living sea sponges. It also commonly affects coastal beaches.

In the next few days when I start feeling better I will write about our adventures in the island, and our experience with CIS Progressive insurance and having body work done.
