window fans

Anybody tried those small fans you put in your window to mitigate the Greenhouse Effect? They're small, and you put them in your window frame and then roll up the window, and plug them in. Some of them are solar powered, I think. When your window is rolled up, they only occupy a couple inches in your window frame. Anyone know how effective they are? I need something to keep my hound cool when I'm out of the van. It just has to eliminate the excess heat build up so if it's 90 outside, it's around 90 inside, not 130.

Here's another description of one: Auto Cool Solar Car Fan – Keep Your Car Cool in the Summer | Home Improvement Tool and Toy Reviews

I had one of them and it didn't move much air at all. It was an older one so maybe the current crop would do a better job.

Always suck out , always suck out .!

i was dumb enough to leave it blow in for a night .
in the morning there where 3 dead grasshoppers on top .
suck out did not do a thing , (they kind of rolled over and lough on me),
after a day i gave up , and at the fuel island , used the tires air line with a screwdriver ,and played shoot the bug .

I love mine - even after the cover did a Frisbee imitation last week - Bentz/Bolt put in a brand new one, and did a great job for a great price, too. :)

Most of the time when I'm sleeping I'll have it blowing in. It's right above the bunk. I'll put in the window vents in the side windows, so the incoming air has a place to escape. I've found that when it's particular sunny and hot out, turning the van into an Easy Bake Oven on wheels, the heat gets expelled more efficiently when it's being forced out the side windows rather than sucked out the roof. I've gotten a bug or two caught up on the screen, just a strategic flick of a finger sends it flying, dead or alive.

Sounds great. Unfortunately, I don't own the van, so I have to find something portable and temporary. I suppose if freight is moving pretty good and money is coming in, he might change his mind. Business has been good the last couple weeks, but before that was terrible, and it will have to stay good for a while before I can even bring that up to him. Until then, I need something temporary.

At Walmart they have a fan called O2 cool, It can run on batteries, plugged in to cig lighter, or its also has a rechargeable battery in it. It will run on high for about 4 or 5 hrs or on low for 9 or 10 hrs on a recharge

Yes but it didn't work out.

Get a Fantastic fan and put it in.
Wish I could. But as someone pointed out, a van owner might not care much about the comfort of the driver when it means spending money. If I could cut into the van, I'd do it for sure.

What?

You don't own the van?

Well you can always claim you got a run to Area 51 and something happened when you were sleeping.
