Couldn't agree more: illegal residents are a drain on our resources that we simply cannot afford. I hope that is an issue that the new President will make some progress on, because it's way overdue.

I personally think illegal aliens should have rights to a band-aid and a free ride back across the border. I also think an illegal mother who comes to the US of A and delivers her kid should also have the right to a ride back home with her NON US CITIZEN baby.

The New York Times did a long article last summer about this case.

There are a lot more issues involved than are depicted in that short video. The hospital did not cover itself in glory in the way it handled things, although you can understand their frustration. There were other options available besides forcably repatriating this guy. The illegal immigrent problem could be solved in no time if the government actually got serious about sanctioning businesses that hire them. Not just the occasional meat processing plant, but the thousands of small business that hire these people who usually show up with forged identity papers. It is now possible to search a government data base on line to screen for forged documents. Anyone with a P.C. can do it. If any effort at all was made to enforce existing laws most would go home when it became obvious that they could not work.

The fact is that despite all the bellowing from the right wing blowhards on T.V. there is no real will to get it done. Everyone likes the cheap labor.
