OK, now I am seeing things a bit clear about you.
See, I believe in small government, I beleive that the government is there for a reason. I can accept regulations on large businesses but limited to mergers and price fixing, going back to the Roosevelt/Taft era of protecting the consumer, not the company (XM/Sirius is one thing that would not happen under their administration for example).
I stand on being a classic liberal for a umber of reasons, one is that property rights is the foundation of our entire country, nothing else. Our rights base everything on the concept that every Man (gender non-specific) has the right to own land and prosper, the right is given by God, not the government and that Man (gender non-specific) gives rights to the states than to the federal government - oh wow that sounds subversive.
The other thing is that we have moved out of the agrarian world into the modern world where tariffs and duties can not by any means support the US government, so taxes are a must. You mentioned the illegal taxes, where are they illegal? How can you come up with that? They are constitutional at this point but can be changed. I think our need of taxes to support the real purpose of the US government can be covered in one change, from Income to Consumption - the Fair Tax. We can support our military, our infrastructure and phase out Social Security to pay off our debts.
