Been in a van since 2001 out here and this morning was my first level 3 inspection. I was coming out of a port in portsmouth va. and they were running all cmv's over the portables. I pull on officer asked me what my gvwr is and my fawr and rawr is, I opened the door and looked down at the tag and told him. "I know what my gvwr is in my head but I never remember my axle weights". He then asked if I am loaded I told him no I just unloaded at the port. He tells me that I am only 300 lbs under my fawr and to pull over and someone will be with me shortly.
Officer came over and asked if I have ever had a roadside inspection on my truck, I told him no I have not had any roadsides since I got out of a big truck. He tells we to show all paperwork and what not for the van and me, and asks for my dl,twic and log book.
I hand him over everything and tell him that I only run a log book for irs purposes but it is accurate and it is here on my laptop.
Well passed my level 3, then he told me that I keep a nice log even though I do not have to. I told him that even though I am in this van I still follow the hos.
So the point of the story is it don't matter what you drive. It can happen to anyone. It does not bother me one bit that they wanted to inspect me I have nothing to hide and I keep a well maintained van, and a accurate log book. Y'all be safe out there.
P.s. I am only under 300 lbs on my steer because I am fat, have a roof mount a/c along with a sleeper and a wonderfully heavy d-max in this van.
