Venezuela seeks nuclear energy capability

Drudge Report is featuring a Bloomberg story wherein Hugo Chavez is announcing his plans to develop nuclear energy with the help of Russia. What about the Monroe Doctrine and the Roosevelt Corollary?

Remember the October Missile Crisis of 1962? JFK was a tough, no-nonsense, pro military Democrat. The last of his kind.

Now, we have the spectre of a left-leaning socialist sympathizer occupying the White House. Does anyone think Obama will take a tough stand against Hugo Chavez's nuclear ambitions in our backyard? Will Hillary Clinton inspire anything other than giggles among Chavez and Putin? We need Dick Cheney back on the job, right now!

Yeah, I hear Sarah Palin can see Russia from her front porch. Seriously, the Israelis have to contend with the Iranian nuclear threat... and we Americans need to pre-empt any nuclear build up in our bailiwick. I not really very concerned about Chavez's nuclear ambitions. If he moves beyond rhetoric on this matter, he will most likely get a night visit from the CIA.

Venezuela is a political "" of Russia. They will NOT use the nuclear capability solely for power. They WILL have the capability to launch a EMP attack on the U.S. VERY quickly. North Korea already can do that. Iran, Russia, China, North Korea and Venezuela are working together to do this Nation in. Obama is doing NOTHING to stop it. He is a coward and a fool. We are in more danger of attack now that we have been for most of my life time. I sure hope all you Obama bums are happy. I am SO happy that that I WASTED most of my life defending this Nation. We are now further behing the 8 ball than we ever have been. It will take decades to fix this mess and more money than I can even imagine. WAY to go Obama, King Putz the 1st!! The current captain of the "Ship of Fools"!!!

You're missing the big picture here, OVM. The Monroe Doctrine isn't a legal argument for the courts... it is an American policy carried out on the battlefield. It means whatever an American president says it means at any particular moment in history. The Monroe Doctrine is a "fig leaf" behind which American presidents can warn, caution, bully and/or admonish adversaries to stay out of the Western Hemisphere.

The US will never tolerate a rogue regime in Central or Latin America having the capability of developing nuclear technology. Whether the Monroe Doctrine is used as a fig leaf or pretext for war, it has served American presidents well for almost two centuries.

Chavez and Putin are testing Obama's threshold. America's military leaders would never let Chavez get beyond the talking stage.

I HOPE you are right my friend, BUT, I would NOT be willing to bet any money on that and certinally NOT my life!! Obama cannot be trusted and the military is REQUIRED to follow his orders. I fear that Obama is either as stupid as I think he is, OR, working WITH the other side!! He does hang around with traitors so there is a more than even chance that he is one himself!!

The monroe doctrine didn't apply to the situations where treaties were made at the end of WW1 and WW2 or by NATO as member.

When they are speaking about missile defense, it is about the NATO treaties and agreements made with the countries where these defensive units will be placed that allow us to deliver protection to the country.

Note the passages in red and think about how they relate to Obama's policies today. Evidently he forgot most of these the moment after he read them from the teleprompter, except the ones that relate to limiting our own weapons systems. Today it's Venezuela, since they've seen N. Korea and Iran go forward with nuclear development with no consequences.What happens when Chavez decides to help his destitute brothers in Cuba with their own badly needed nuclear power system? It's obvious that all these leaders see Obama as weak and incompetent, so they'll make their move during their 4-year window of opportunity before he's gone.

It is like this, people are too dumb to understand that a candidate can't make those promises simply because he doesn't know what is going on or knows what the president knows.

For those who believed in Obama would make good on the promise of cutting this or ending that, they didn't count on a cold day in December when Obama and his minions went to the WH to learn what life is really like for the president. That defining moment in his life made all those promises, promises that will never be kept because he has no power what so ever to end anything or cut anything because of those secrets that he and the guy before him know.

The problem is, he will keep the promise made in paragraph 3; he will keep part of the promise made in paragraph 4, up to the words "...not develop nuclear weapons". After that, all bets are off.

As much as he would like to do this, I think in this day and age it is an impossible dream. With the joke of our SoS and the mean spirited 'open' debate about internal issues, countries like Israel, India, China and others who posses the capabilities or the material will not play ball with Obama. They watch how he handles internal issues and they watch his reaction to counties like Iran and NK and are not convinced that he is that Messiah we have been telling the world about.

For example India will not stop doing their thing because of the threat they see with Pakistan and the instability there. If Obama pulls out of Afghanistan like he may if it gets rough for him, then that will open the door for recolonization of Afghanistan by the taliban and in turn may effect Pakistan's politics in the remote regions that may turn into a civil war. With all of that, India is going to say no way to anything Obama wants.

AND if he thinks that Russia will agree with him, I would bet he would find out they won't. The Russians are going to sit back and wait and not give up any leverage they have in the future.
