Two Islams

OK, I'll admit right up front. I'm just a dumb ole country boy that somehow accidentally got dropped in the city. I see things yes/no, true/false, black/white. I don't see grays, maybes etc. so I may be way off but here's my question.

Are there not two Islams? One that is a religion and one that is political? I believe the majority are religious and not looking to overthrow the world. I think they may even disapprove of the political Islam. I'm just curious of others see this too or if I'm seeing the only screening of that version.

I have known and worked with people that were devout followers of Islam. The folks that I have known would absolutely NEVER condone violence in the name of their religion.

there my be only one but it is the best proof when the founding fathers formed our constitution there were right about the separation of church and state.

There is one islam, but different denominations so to speak. Just like there is one christianity but you have baptist, pentecostal, methodist and the list just goes on. On the seperation of church and state I personaly think most of the founding fathers would be apalled that the bible has been taken out of the school. The key word being most. Alot of people seem to think that when the founding fathers said freedom for all they meant all when actually they meant christians. Back to topic I think certain people regardless of what group can take something like the koran or the bible and twist the meanings of things to suppourt their own idealogies.

The Bible was never meant to be taken out of schools. Religion was never meant to be taken out of anything. The founding fathers meant there to be no single religion given preference or state sponsorship like the church of England. They never intended what has happened in the last few decades.

I realize there's only one Koran and technically only one Islam. My contention is there are two factions. The majority faction being peaceful practitioners of a non-violent religion and the minority being political terrorists.

By whose standards is the religion non-violent?

Islam as with others has some parts of it that are violent by different people's standards, the same with some forms of other main stream religions.

From the standpoint of mass bombings etc. and killing everyone not Muslim. I don't think most Muslims promote that although I could be wrong.

No they don't from what I can see but also many of them follow their religion to deal with it on a different level than we do.

I think, in a sense, you're right, Leo. One is a religion, the other is a Theocracy/Oligarchy/movement. The same could be said about the Holy Roman Empire/crusades/inquisition, etc. Jewish have to look at Zionists as their political movement. Every religion has it's everyday followers. It's when that view gets in the way of life itself is when you get the power mongers who use their religion to their own end. Just because you say you're doing it in the name of your diety of choice, doesn't mean it's right.
