Truck Not Used

What is the industry standard for a truck not used? We contracted for a load, sent a truck to pick it up, then was told the shipper gave the load to someone else.

Sometimes shippers do that. They will call several carriers and book the load, then whoever gets there first gets the load. Usually carriers pay the truck a dry run when that happens. If I were you I would bill the shipper a dry run as it took your time and fuel to go pick up the load only to not get it.

It depends, what is the relationship with the shipper?

If it one of them internet loads, I would charge them more than fuel and time, maybe even the entire agreed price of the truck because they didn't communicate to you that they no longer needed the truck.

I would think that would be covered in your rate confirmation that you sent to the shipper.
