Tough things we have to do

I have two stories that happen recently;

I was in line to pay for my groceries, in a line where there is a untrained cashier. She was rude and didn’t really care.

In front of us, there was an elderly lady who barely could stand trying to get through the check out. The girl ringing her up messed up on her potatoes, ringing up celery instead of golden potatoes a difference of $6. So we patiently stood there and watched the girl at the register complain about her scale, about the time the managers are taking to some over to correct things and about not being able to fix the mistake.

As she is waiting, she grabs the divider that my wife put on the conveyor belt and slides it down so someone else could use it. She is getting impatient and complaining about the scale and now the credit card reader. 15 minutes went by and nothing but complaining. The other people all left and went to the other line, I didn’t care, what I was going to do except go home and work more.

Finally a supervisor comes by and helps the girl with the problem, making the correction and as I am talking to my wife about the virtues of being patient the girl asks me if the milk is hers, pointing towards my wife, so I say yep. She grabs it and rings it up, puts it in a bag and hands it to the elderly lady and then grabs Pillsbury tube of what ever and rung that up. At that point I stop her and she gets pissed at me, giving me a lecture about her questioning me about whose stuff was it and how I said it was the ladies stuff. So she put the Pillsbury stuff back and grabs the milk out of the lady’s hands and then corrects the Pillsbury tube sale but I noticed that she did not do the milk for the elderly lady. The lady paid and she was leaving, I was not going to have the girl go through the same thing that she went though with the potatoes, so I walked up to the lady and told her what I saw and asked if the milk was still on the receipt. It was, and there was no subtraction so I gave her $3 to cover the milk and any inconvenience that caused by stopping her while she was trying to make her escape.

Then the girl stops ringing my stuff up, walks over to the door where I am standing and asks what the problem is. I told her she didn’t take the milk off and she rips into me about not having her go back to the register and making the correction. I tried to explain to her, I do not want to wait any more for her to do anything but to ring up my stuff and let me get out of there. I expected her not to charge me for the milk she charged the elderly lady, I paid her for the milk. I called the store and got a rather bad lecture about it but it don’t matter I lost $3, I made sure that the lady wasn’t screwed out of money that it was apparent needed more than I did.

The second story was at the Livonia store this past weekend, the worst store in the world as far as I am concern.

I am standing in line waiting for the cashier to get her crap together, she is slower than the last one I had. The lady in front of me has to move around with a walker, passed her in the store a few times. When she had to pay, she didn’t understand the cashier – cashiers fault.

Once she figured out how much she had to pay, she started to get upset and started to pull out all her change to make the difference, she had $60 and the bill was $64.70. She fumbled and asked the cashier to help her count; the cashier refused and was getting impatient with the lady. The lady had her change out on the little table, trying to count pennies and nickels.

Well I and the guy in full African dress behind me are standing there watching and we both said to each other that we will pay for the difference, so I move behind the line and walked up to the cashier and quietly said, “let her go and I will pay the difference”. She turned to me and said loudly “no I won’t do that, let her pay for her damn stuff, if she can’t pay for it she should not be shopping.”

As I was going back into the line, I grabbed one of the supervisors walking by and told him what was going on and that I am so angry at the cashier for her treatment of the lady, that his regional manager will be hearing from me and I will make a point to include his name when I call the local press. He went over to the cashier and told her, either she let the lady go or she will be fired right there. The girl snapped up the change that was sitting there and told the lady “this is fine your all set and have a nice day”.

When she started to ring up my stuff, she told me that I was an :censoredsign: and my response was about what I am writing but with more bad language;
I reminded her of her little badge on her shirt – ‘Jesus is Lord’ and the other one ‘WWJD?’ and then told her she is clueless what those mean or understand what Jesus would expect her to do. I berated her as bad as I could, telling her that I and the gentlemen behind me was willing to pay for the difference because it is the right thing to do, and we are better than she is. We don’t need to be selfish and rude but in fact we practice what Jesus expects us to do. At the end of my rant, I told her that Jesus and God bless those who step up to the plate, that is why I am buying things and she is working there. I told her she can stick the stuff I was going to buy up her a** and I walked out.

The guy behind followed me out, telling me that he has seen some really rude people lately.

Oh I forgot to add, the rude cashier has a $4.70 shortage in her drawer, we didn't give her a dime.

You do have all the fun. It's amazing how terrible people can be in a service position. The worst part is that at some places the manager is no better than anyone else.

It's horrible how people treat elderly people these days. I think it's funny because I always hold the door open for people behind me, and sometimes they act soo surprised that someone would hold the door open for them. It seems more and more that people are surprised by acts of kindness because so many people are rude and out there all for themselves. No one thinks of anyone else anymore.

Unfortunately, there are people who advertise they are christians and believe in God, but they act just like everyone else. I know no one is perfect, but if you're going to put yourself out there, you should make sure your actions show other people you are different and that you have something different in your life. Why would someone want to turn to God if they see that you're just as miserable as them? Maybe they should try practicing the love of Christ. Really ask themselves what it means to wear the pin they are wearing.

I don't remember the exact dialogue but in McClintock there's a scene where an army sergeant is disrespectful of one of the Comanche chiefs. John Wayne points out that the "old man" is a chief etc. and quietly whispers if the sergeant touches the chief again he'll kill him. There are a lot of good examples in John Wayne movies.
