So I have advised Thompson that I am leaving and gave them the two weeks notice that they asked for, now they are giving me a run around. They have issued pay statements and are withholding my pay. Any suggestions on how to get it out of them?

I have decided to leave thompson as they have DOUBLED my insurance rates and are charging me for their new tracking system. There has been a significant slow down in work. Maybe make $400 a week after expenses. I hear from other Thompson drivers that they are not happy and also leaving for the same reasons. A new driver that they took on about 4 months ago said they are charging him 4X the insurance. He is not making any money and getting stuck in the USA for weeks at a time waiting for a load.

Any drivers looking to move to Thompson, BE WARNED. text me and I will tell you all about my experiences.

Insurance rates have rise dramatically for a lot of drivers. If you have a contract and they legally owe you money go to court. Most companies do charge for tracking systems not really unusual.

Good luck hope it works out for you.

Does your lease give them the right to hold pay when you give notice ?
Do you have an escrow account ?

Carriers often like to keep funds until they are sure they have all POD's and are confident no claims or unreported accidents are going to show up.

Does Canada have any Truth in Leasing type rules ?

That's why we let our contractors take out their own bobtail. That way they can shop around for the best rates and I can just cover them on primary and cargo. Most of our straight truck owners tell me they're still getting ok bobtail rates right now but the primary and cargo has shot up pretty high recently for us. I haven't been charging for tracking yet because we're getting a fairly inexpensive option with the Sylectus mobile app for phones. It's a lot less than QC. Hmm...maybe I need to look into charging more for that than it costs and nickel and diming the drivers to pad the profit margin. Seems to work for a lot of other carriers.

After the first two years of always getting "Please call back in a couple of weeks" I gave up.

I'll give him 10% of the amount owed if he signs his rights to it over to me.

There you go.;) My guess is he tried to collect it prior to the release date. Usually 45 days. It will say right in his contract. Whether he had charges against it for QC or fuel tax would be subtracted from the total.
