I'm sitting here in Barstow, CA at the Flying J, about 6 hours ago while playing poker with my window open. This bird almost hits me in the head trying to fly into my window. I jumped and he went on my roof. It scared the crap outta me. I heard him walking around my roof for a few minutes then he slides down my windshield. He stays on my hood for hours. He fell off (slid) once. I went to get a shower and when I came back he was back up on my hood again. I think he is hurt, he doesn't fly too well. I put some left over burrito insides in a cup (beans lettuce tomatoes and some meat) and filled it with water. I have refilled it with water about 5 times already.

I know in poetry birds often imply death, If I don't make it till morning would someone please put out an APB on this bird!:D

If you can train him to sit in the center at the front, and hang on, he would make a hell of a hood ornament. Maybe teach him to flap his wings on the hills for a little extra umpf!

Was the wing damaged? Be careful around pigeons, they often carry diseases that can be passed on by the mites they often have. You really should not feed any wild animal, they become dependent on the hand outs. Some have even been known to starve when the freebies stoped.

I think this is the same bird my sister just told me about last week.

She was telling me about being at the J, in Barstow, to get some pizza. She said they just got back into the truck when this bird almost flew into her window and than sat on the hood of her truck, watching them eat. She said it left after it realized it wasn't going to get anything from them.

Classic behavioral conditioning: Bird flies into window, might have bruised it's ego; hangs out a bit and gets fed by the sympathetic human; rinse, repeat. It's found a great way to get fed with little work involved but to hit the window, feign injury, and decorate the hood.

Good, try not to handle sick or injured birds. It is a very good way to get sick your self. Layoutshooter

They are a whole lot of fun to watch. I will tell what is really interesting to watch, weaszles hunting!! It it just fasinating!! There are several around the tree that I hunt deer out of in PA. When up in my stand they have no idea I am there. They come out at daybreak and start to hunt. Many a deer has slipped by me while I was watching them!!!
