the real Hillary

AN ANALYSIS WORTH READING: by Dick Morris, former political advisor to President Bill Clinton

If you happen to see the Bill Clinton five minute TV ad for Hillary in which he introduces the commercial by saying that he wants to share some things we may not know about Hillary's background...beware.

I, Dick Morris, was there for most of their presidency and know them better than just about anyone. I offer a few corrections.

Bill says: "In law school Hillary worked on legal services for the poor."

The facts are: Hillary's main extra-curricular activity in law school was helping the Black Panthers, on trial in Connecticut for torturing and killing a federal agent. She went to court every day as part of a law student monitoring committee trying to spot civil rights violations and develop grounds for appeal. Some of these Panthers still live in Cuba.

Bill says: "Hillary spent a year after graduation working on a children's rights project for poor kids."

The facts are: Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the California Communist Party. She met Bob when he represented the Panthers and traveled all the way to San Francisco to take an internship with him.

Bill says: "Hillary could have written her own job ticket, but she turned down all the lucrative job offers."

The facts are: She flunked the DC bar exam. Yes, flunked; it is a matter of record, and only passed the Arkansas bar. She had no job offers in Arkansas ... none, and only got hired by the University of Arkansas Law School at Fayetteville because Bill was already teaching there. She did not join the prestigious Rose Law Firm until Bill became Arkansas Attorney General and was made a partner only after he was elected Arkansas Governor.

Bill says: "President Carter appointed Hillary to the Legal Services Board of Directors and she became its chairman."

The facts are: The appointment was in exchange for Bill's support for Carter in his 1980 primary against Ted Kennedy. Hillary then became chairman in a coup in which she won a majority away from Carter's choice to be chairman.

Bill says: "She served on the board of the Arkansas Children's Hospital."

The facts are: Yes she did. But her main board activity, not mentioned by Bill, was to sit on the Wal-Mart board of directors, for a substantial fee. She was silent about their labor and health care practices.

Bill says: "Hillary didn't succeed at getting health care for all Americans in 1994 but she kept working at it and helped to create the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that provides five million children with health insurance."

The facts are: Hillary had nothing to do with creating CHIP. It was included in the budget deal between Clinton and Republican Majority Leader Senator Trent Lott. I know; I helped to negotiate the deal. The money came half from the budget deal and half from the Attorney Generals' tobacco settlement. Hillary had nothing to do with either source of funds.

Bill says: "Hillary was the face of America all over the world."

The facts are: Her visits were part of a program to get her out of town so that Bill would not appear weak by feeding stories that Hillary was running the White House. Her visits abroad were entirely touristic and symbolic and there was no substantive diplomacy on any of them.

Bill says: "Hillary was an excellent Senator who kept fighting for children's and women's issues."

The facts are: Other than totally meaningless legislation like changing the names on courthouses and post offices, she has passed only four substantive pieces of legislation. One set up a national park in Puerto Rico. A second provided respite care for family members helping their relatives through Alzheimer's or other conditions. And two were routine bills to aid 911 victims and responders which were sponsored by the entire NY delegation. Presently she is trying to have the U.S. memorialize the Woodstock fiasco of 40 years ago.

Here is what bothers me more than anything else about Hillary Clinton. She has done everything possible to weaken the President and our country (that's you and me!) when it comes to the war on terror.

1. She wants to close GITMO (Guantanamo Base, Cuba) and move the combatants to the USA where they would have access to our legal system. (and at taxpayer expense, of course)

2. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of suspected Al Qaeda phone calls to/from the USA. (in other words, put handcuffs on those in federal government trying to protect us)

3. She wants to grant constitutional rights to enemy combatants captured on the battlefield. (again, at taxpayer expense)

4. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of money transfers between suspected Al Qaeda cells and supporters in the USA. (Here again, help the enemy and hurt our government that is trying to protect us)

5. She wants to eliminate the type of interrogation tactics used by the military & CIA where coercion might be used when questioning known terrorists even though such tactics might save American lives. (and she says she is for national defense???)

One cannot think of a single bill Hillary has introduced or a single comment she has made that would tend to strengthen our country in the War on Terror. But, one can think of a lot of comments she has made that weaken our country and makes it a more dangerous situation for all of us.

Bottom line: She goes hand in hand with the ACLU on far too many issues where common sense is abandoned!

Just so you know, though, not a word of that was penned by Dick Morris.
Just a cursory glance will tell you the writing style is not that of Dick Morris. Plus, Dick Morris has written very little that wasn't picked up by most all of the major media outlets. He sells. Nary a snippet of any of this on the major news Web sites.

Many of the things in this article began circulating in e-mails early on during Bill's first term, all attributed to a wide variety of sources. Then, in June of 2000, her involvement in the Black Panthers trial began circulating, the wording being almost verbatim from the well-circulated Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story", one that Paul Harvey, incidentally, never published, either on the radio or in print. Snopes details her "involvement" in the Black Panther trial as a result of the long-ago Paul Harvey attribution, and some of the other things listed in the article are also to be found on Snopes in other, unrelated posts.

It never ceases to amaze me how people will take the time to compose this stuff, working really hard to discredit her, when in reality all you have to do is point to the truth about her, which is much more frightening than this type of desperate, grasping at straws, fiction.

JFK said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Hillary is just the opposite. She's all about the cradle-to-grave government taking care of every aspect of our lives. No fiction is more frightening than that.

Regardless of the author, one wonders how much of that essay is factual. I haven't bothered to look for the commercial - does it exist? A check at the Snopes.com website shows this same writing almost word for word and says the status to be undetermined - research in progress. So far, they don't dispute any of the assertions. Their last update on it was Feb 3d. Link is below:

It'll be awhile before they confirm or dispute much of anything. They tend to be rather thorough in their investigations. But yes, the video is there. It can be seen here YouTube - Message from President Clinton

It's not really a question of how much of the article/essay is factual, as some of it is, some of it isn't, but mainly it's how it's worded in order to distort the facts. Skip the point that it's way obvious that Dick Morris didn't write it for a bit.

Here's one example of creative writing:

Bill says: "In law school Hillary worked on legal services for the poor."

That's kinda true. She did, but she did not do so in a legal capacity, as she didn't have a law degree. She assisted in the manner of an intern, same as her classmates did.

The first sentence is pure fiction, the second sentence is true, the third sentence, no one knows who lives in Cuba.

The first sentence is a whopper. One, she was in law school, she was not a lawyer, so she couldn't have been helping the Black Panthers, in any legal capacity whatsoever, while they were on trial. Two, by definition, "extra-curricular" means outside of the curriculum, and if she was in fact helping the Black Panthers outside of the curriculum she wouldn't have a prayer at ever becoming a lawyer. That's practicing law without a license.

The second sentence more clearly states her total involvement in the Black Panther case, as in, she and her class went to court to study court procedures and the trial process, and since many of the arguments by the defense contained Civil Rights arguments, yeah, she and her classmates were trying to spot Civil Rights violations. However, her and her classmates using anything thing found to try and develop any grounds for appeal would have been purely an academic exercise, not a legal one.

The next two kind of go together:

Bill says: "Hillary spent a year after graduation working on a children's rights project for poor kids."

The facts are: Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the California Communist Party. She met Bob when he represented the Panthers and traveled all the way to San Francisco to take an internship with him.

Well, first of all, she actually did spend nearly a year after graduation working on rights for poor kids. Sort of. She did a year of post-graduate study on children and medicine at the Yale Child Study Center. While there, she served as staff attorney for the Children's Defense Fund and as a consultant to the Carnegie Council on Children. That was her first job out of college.

Second, and I gotta believe Dick Morris knows this, the name was Bob Treuhaft, not Truehaft. Bob Treuhaft was never the head of the California Communist Party. Not even once. He was a radical leftist, though, and was actually a member of the communist party when McCarthy was doing his deal in the 50's. Treuhaft was listed by the House Un-American Activities Committee as one of the most dangerously subversive lawyers in the country, according to his 2001 obituary in the Times of London. However, Treuhaft resigned from the Party in 1958.

Hillary Clinton was an intern as a law clerk for one summer in 1971 for the law firm of Treuhaft, Walker and Burnstein. She worked almost exclusively with Burnstein (according to Burnstein). She graduated from Wellesley College in 1969 and from Yale Law School in 1973. Note the dates, particularly the second one.

Where do I begin? Upon graduation she took two bar exams, the one for Arkansas and the one for D.C. She passed the Arkansas bar and failed the D.C. exam. A lot of people fail the bar exam the first time they take it. She didn't get any job offers from Arkansas because she already was working on rights for poor kids, and then left that job to be a staff lawyer assisting a Congressional committee drawing up articles of impeachment for Richard Nixon, which became moot when Nixon resigned in August of 1974.

She then moved to Arkansas and a little over a year later, October 1975, she married Bubba. She started with the Rose Law Firm on Jan 1, 1976. She specialized in intellectual property law, while doing pro bono work for child advocacy. Later that year her husband Bill was elected to the post of Arkansas Attorney General. She didn't get the Rose Law firm position because her husband was Attorney General. The other way around, perhaps. hehe

It's true that Hillary became a partner in the Rose Law Firm, but I'm not sure it's accurate to state that she did so "only after" he became governor, as if to imply that it wasn't gonna happen unless he became governor. It certainly wasn't going to happen any quicker than two years as an associate, regardless of who or what her husband was, but her performance at the firm pretty much assured that she would become a partner even if her husband lost the election for governor (according to Rose and Nash, two of the partners, as reported in Carl Bernstein's not-too flattering book, A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton).

It's pretty easy to pick this stuff apart with even the most cursory search through one's memory, and certainly with enough Googling of the public records. Simple time-lines are enough to blow most of this "essay" out of the water. The "essay" has a lot of truth to it, just enough that it sounds true and for-sure, and enough to jog the reader's memory into believing it, but most of it's twisted, and then mixed with pure fiction, or outright lies.

Like I said, there's no need to go to all that trouble when the plain facts speak for themselves. Just look at her Congressional record, look at what she tried to do as a non-elected public official as First Lady. She thinks the government's job is to take care of us. She, and those like her are responsible for programs like WIC, The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children - better known as the WIC Program, which serves to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, & children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.

Currently, more than one-half of all children age 5 and under, and their mothers, are on WIC. One Half. Are you kiddin' me?

Instead of asking these low income women why they are having children they cannot afford, we enable (reward) them by giving them free food. This is Hillary Clinton at her core.

Black Panthers? Really? Oh, Puhleeze.

Turtle... law students have been helping outside of court for a long time. There are many student groups who take up cases of those who are believed innocent. They routinely do the leg work for court staff, by running or researching law.

Not saying Hillary was a Panther helper. To me, that doesn't fit her ambitions. Just pointing something out.

Hawk, yeah, I know. I was just responding to the part where it said her "main extra-curricular activity in law school was helping the Black Panthers," stated to imply as if she was somehow actually involved with the case. She wasn't. No leg work, not even ankle work.

I did forget to point out another total misrepresentation, the part that states, "...on trial in Connecticut for torturing and killing a federal agent." The two Black Panthers were on trial for torturing and killing a fellow Black Panther member, not a federal agent. The organization had become paranoid with the belief that the membership had become infiltrated with government spies and bloated with police informants. They believed one man in particular, Alex Rackley, a member of the New York Black Panthers, was ratting them out to J. Edgar Hoover. Sooooo, they took Rackely to the home of a prospective Black Panther recruit, held him for 24 hours while the beat him to a pulp and scalded him with boiling water, then took him to a Middlefield, CT swamp and shot him dead. His body was found the next day, and shortly thereafter 14 Black Panther members were arrested and charged with kidnapping, conspiracy, and murder. Two men were ultimately put on trial (well, there were a couple of trials, but this is the one in question), and the state failed to prove the case, which resulted in a hung jury. The prosecution elected not to try them again and the charges were dismissed. The guy who admitted to pulling the trigger, Warren Kimbro, plead guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for ratting out his fellow Panthers, and he was sentenced to life, but was released after 4 years.

I'm pretty sure he's not presently living in Cuba. After he was released from prison, he attended Harvard University (other urban legends have him and Al Gore becoming best friends at Harvard, even though they didn't attend during the same time frame, Gore was long gone before Kimbro was sentenced to prison). For more than 20 years, Kimbro has been president and CEO of Project MORE, a non-profit agency in New Haven that offers both day programs and residence to ex-convicts, helping them to re-enter society.

To date, Hillary Clinton has not earmarked a dime for Mr. Kimbro's non-profit organization. She's earmarked a lot of money for a lot of people, but he ain't one of them.

Isn't it funny how ppl will twist the truth to benefit their own hatred of a certain person/people? It happens on all sides. Today I heard that the NYTimes printed a story about McCain having an affair. They did so without proof, witness, nada. The exec editor said he even had major doubts about the story's truth; but ran it anyways.

Amazing.
