The Nightmare To End Them All...

Last night I had the strangest dream. It was so real, so life-like and so vivid.

Let me describe it to you briefly...

1. Hillary wins the Democratic Party nomination for President of the United States.

2. Naturally, she wants to choose as her running mate someone with a lot of knowledge and experience in government and foreign affairs, someone who is a seasoned campaigner who could bring a lot of strength to the ticket. Who better than Bill, her husband?

3. Hill and Bill go on to win the election in November and the Democrats maintain control of the House and the Senate.

4. Hillary is sworn in as President on January 20, 2009. The next day, after all the inauguration parties are over, she calls a press conference to make an announcement: she is resigning as President. Bill, as the Vice President, immediately becomes President. This is all perfectly legal under the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, for it states that "no person may be elected as president more than twice". Bill is not being elected for a third term but is merely serving out the remainder of Hillary's term---all 4 years of it.

But wait! There's more!

5.The following day Bill calls a press conference to make an announcement. He has chosen someone to fill the now-vacant office of Vice President. Guess who he picks? Why, Hillary, of course.

6. And one last thing, Bill could resign just before the elections and that would make Hillary the incumbent President. She could run for re-election and we could do it all over again and she would never serve out her two terms...Bill could be President for life....

Oh my!

Wide awake…cold sweats.

Wow Deja hillary....

DD this has been posted somewhere else on EO, but the thing is the Dems would not allow it to happen, Billy is no longer their cherished icon, Obama is. He blew it when he tried to play the race card and it backfired on him. :D

Also posted elsewhere, it CAN'T HAPPEN. Bill can't be vice president, because he has to be available to serve 4 years in case Hillary dropped dead after her acceptance speech. Since Bill already served 8 years as president, he could only serve 2 more, according to the Constitution.

Don't fret... it's only a dream. :)

T-Hawk,
There is no restriction in him being VP, in fact the scenario that is being played out in these emails can happen and there is nothing that can be done about it. This was questioned in '96 when there was talk about repealing the 22nd amendment to allow billy to run a third term and the scenario was used a few times to find ways around the 22nd amendment.

The 22nd amendment is clear about this, he can become president by her stepping down and both Houses of Congress confirming by majority but he can not run in an election for the office.

Another scary thing that was discussed was the use of the 25th amendment to fill a vacant VP spot after an election and the president appoint a VP then step down after that person is confirmed. See there is nothing to stop this from happen and even though there is restrictions in both 22nd and 25th amendments on how it happens, there are no limitations on how many times it can happen. He can, for all intent and purpose play that scenario out as long as the congress let's him.

22nd amendment -
Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

By the way, a bit of trivia - this amendment didn't allow Truman to run for a second term and Eisenhower was completely against it AND it was to limit the FDR effect in politics but we failed to extend that to the real problems of our country, representatives and senators.
