The crux of the health care issue a la Senator Ted Kennedy

As i said, i don't and i don't think anyone knows a time or date, but to think it ain't going to happen, is the let the blind lead you....we are at close to 10% unemployment and we are collecting almost 30% less in income tax yr to yr...what happens if we hit 15% as is being talked about?? where is the tax money going to go from??? OHH thats right, they will just increase the deduction rates on the rich, and the income amount to qualify as rich will be lowered so that they have a larger pot to steal from.....but then too, there will be less working....more collecting government benefits , costing more, the fed will just print more worthless money and the cycle goes on until you need $12 buck to buy a loaf of bread......

And if when what that article speaks of happens, you had better have been a "prepper" and be ready to defend your preps and family.....ammo, think weapons and ammo.....

10% isn't even close to what we had in history...and we recovered...mind you it took a world war to do it....

yeap it took a war to get people to work again, then when the GI's came home they need homes and cars.....

Today our 10% is like 30% back then....and with an almost 30% shortage in tax collection, and even barry says unemployment will go up foe a few YRS...as i asked, where does the tax money come from???? Where does the money for the comsumers come from to get the economy growing again?? The western states seaports are down over 25% on inbound container ships...we ain't buying anything, and we haven't made most of what we do buy for along time...so wheres the money coming from for the recovery??? Sooner or later the "stuff" the Fed is printing will be worthless......

If the US government thinks it can do a better job of providing affordable healthcare, let them establish a chain of government owned hospitals and clinics available to all citizens. Let them compete against the private market. Just leave privately owned hospitals and clinics alone.

Oh wait, the government can't build and operate a chain of new hospitals because the US government is hopelessly BROKE.

I think most of this is moot because as you and Chefdennis point out, there is a paucity of money available to fund Obama's plans. "Throwing money all over the economy (and especially to sectors that match up with Democratic interests) is the shortest path to what Margaret Thatcher described as the inherent flaw in socialism: Eventually you run out of other people's money". From washingtonpost.com.

Why is the Carnival Barker-in-Chief spending his political capital promoting new programs we can't possibly afford or need?

The federal government should be announcing a new austerity budget which includes eliminating many federal projects and a huge cut in taxes. If he keeps singing the 'tax and spend" anthem of the Democrats, Obama will be out in 2012.

Two overly simplistic solutions that I have not really seen mentioned in the "political world":

The Economy: Instead of going another 1 trillion dollars into debt for a dubious "stimulus" plan, why not cut taxes 1 trillion dollars? I think American business would find something to spend the tax windfall on! (Like jobs, materials and services).

Health care: Find ways to reduce the ridiculous cost of health care rather than throwing even more money down the drain. I can think of a few things: Reduce lawsuit awards, which would lead to lower malpractice insurance costs. (Get the lawyers out of the medical system!) Eliminate several layers from the existing grossly inefficient government bureaucracy. (Reform Medicare and Medicade).

I know, overly simplistic, but nothing else seems to be working. Why not try common sense for once! :p

The ignorant speak and we will end up with another Medicare/social security nightmare with no end. Kennedy and his family has been one of the most destructive, even more than Manson and his family.

The only real reform is to let the d*mn health care market alone and stop micromanaging it. I do not care what anyone says, there is not a person who can't not find care in this country for any ailment if they want to have the care.

WE DO NOT HAVE PEOPLE DYING IN THE STREETS!

WE DO NOT REFUSE CARE TO THOSE WHO NEED IT!

I have said time and time again where these problems have been - it is the government regulating everythign from the drugs to the insurance companies to the patient's rights.

I am not a nurse, I am not a doctor, I am not someone who has had health care handed to like many of the union people who want this. I worked within the system as a coder, biller, as a hospital support specialist but especially as patient without any insurance more than once. I have worked with BCBS, with HAP, with Blue Care and a lot of doctor's practices but as a patient without health care I worked the system to ensure I wasn't without care - which in a free market system I CAN DO THAT.

Take the free market away and what do I have - nothing! My dependence on someone else to make decisions THAT I SHOULD ONLY MAKE is now my only course of action and like the DMV, like Social Security and like the IRS, I will be lost and only a number in the system.

DO YOU WANT TO BE JUST A NUMBER?

Why are we not tackling other issues first, like legal care. There is no part in the bill of rights about my legal right to health care, I am not entitled to it as many want to make it out to be but I think there is something in the US Constitution that says I AM ENTITLED TO LEGAL CARE!

So let's start with the lawyers and legal firms by regulating them as they do health care. Let's limit their incomes, limit their ability to practice by rationing their representation of a client and force these people who make millions by the exploitation of the citizens of this country to make them return that money to the people by having Universal Legal Care.
