Taliban, Al Qaeda closing in...

The Obama administration inherited from President Bush a multiyear, $100 million secret American program to help Pakistan build stronger physical protections around some of those facilities, and to train Pakistanis in nuclear security.

But much of that effort has now petered out, and American officials have never been permitted to see how much of the money was spent, the facilities where the weapons are kept or even a tally of how many Pakistan has produced. The facility Pakistan was supposed to build to conduct its own training exercises is running years behind schedule.

What horse bleep is this?

Pakistan is on the brink....

We are getting into VERY serious troble. We have not dealt with this problem since Carter put us into this mess. No adminstration has even come close to putting out the effort needed to stop this threat. Reagan made a half-hearted attempt but paniced when the marine barracks in Beirut was bombed. He should have hit back hard but choose to pull out instead. Bush 1 should have not stopped in the first Gulf War but did NOT work from a US security stand point. Clinton did everything but send aid to these people and I truely expect Obama TO send them aid. I do not believe that Obama gives one flip about national security or our sovereignty as a nation. We are on the brink of things that were hard to imagine 30 years ago. I expect the lose of life to be in the 100's of millions or more. These are very scary times.

OK, all you whatevers, go ahead and ridicule me. Have your fun. Call me a relic, a reactionary or a fool if it pleases you. I do honestly regret having wasted my life defending this "Ship of Fools". I could have done nothing as most did, got to hunt and fish on my river for years and still ended up where we are today. To those of you who really believe in the dream that once once this proud nation, I don't include you. To the rest who support the desolving of this nation, go fly a kite.

Thank you for nothing

I think that it is no longer if but when. Obama is doing nothing anywhere to fight these thugs. I really thinks he agrees with them. Layoutshooter

Well it wasn't that secret, there is a budget that was discussed in committee last year and there is a lot of real concern that if Pakistan falls, then we will have to invade to prevent;

India from invading and killing anything that moves

Terrorist getting nukes

My concern is that Pakistan is used in part as a processing center for some of our financial world and our personal data (SS numbers and everything to be exact) is accessible there, so if the Taliban got hold of the info, then we have a serious problem. Most of the people don't get that the access to this data is all over the place and no one in our government has addresed the issues of identiy theift.

The other concern is with India who will perceive the change in Pakistan government as a threat because of the Nuke issue. They may preemptively strike to secure the nukes during the chaos that will undoubtedly happen with a government change. It won't be pretty and may even be a slaughter. This will start one hell of a war in the region with the Muslims and Indians.

I don't think he agrees with them...

But Pakistan stubbornly argues they can secure these nuclear weapons on their own without US help...But then again we are not well received over there and any US presence could put the fence sitters on the OTHER side....its darned if we do and darned if we don't....

I don't see our homeland being hit...our shield is just that good....they don't have the required missles or enough of them to penetrate.....

OVM, you are serious?

Pakistan has been having problems with fundamentalist for a while and Obama's "I will invade Pakistan if I have to " was treated as a threat to these fundamentalists and used as leverage against our efforts. The people of Pakistan seems to think we will abadon them the first chance we get because of Obama and our history under democratic rule.

People here don't get the idea words mean things and if we have an appoligetic president who is soft in both substance and rhetoric, we are in very serious trouble because the people will use the rhetoric against us to turn people to hate not just us but everyone and to cause more bloodshed. People here will have a rude awakening when a lot of things that we take for granted will be interupted.

The real issue right now is India, more so than Iran or anyone else. They have been fighting Pakistan for a long time and they are on edge over the happenings within the country. They look at Afghanistan under Taliban rule as a problem and uncontrollable until the US stepped in and now seeing that the Taliban is at their door and possesing nukes, they will not tolerate it one bit. It has to do with religion and what the Taliban will do if they invade india let alone the purging that will take place in Pakistan of non-Muslim people.

Obama has no backround or experience. We got what we paid for, nothing. A best a hand ringing apologizer, at worst a man who supports these people. Layoutshooter

So you are saying the Pakistani people think we might just cut them lose and back out of our support...leave them out to dry? Because Demo's are seen as weak....

Yep that's what I am saying, the feelings were there before the election and it was all reinforced when he won. Obama's comment did more damage to our relationship. They look at Iran and even looking at us pulling out of Iraq (notice something happening there since the date was announced) and think that we will do the same to them. We have had a problem with pulling out of situations since Vietnam and under Carter, Clinton and now Obama, the middle east sees weakness, not strength. With Bush I and II, there was a feeling of a worth while ally but with Clinton, even after bombing serbia, the Muslims viewed us as weak and with Obama being appoligetic, it reinforces their vision of us as being as weak as a sick animal.

Ship of Fools goes the other way too. I think that is what we have right now, a Ship of Fools who think the messiah will lead them to the promise land and we will be one with our enemies because we will be the country of higher morals and purpose.
