Is there much payload capacity differance between a regular tandem axle truck or a tag or pusher axle truck?

well, it was good info, at least most of the lift axles have a capacity of more than 10k, which was the info I was looking for. Whats the point of having a class 8 frame if it can can only scale 33k

In our DR-unit days with FECC we rarely had to use our pusher axle. When in the state of CA if the truck is only running on two axles (6-wheels) it can legally run the same speed limit as the cars. Even when its equiped with a lift axle. We actually carried copy of the Ca law regarding this just in case we were stopped. Once the axle is lowered then you must comply with the truck speed limit of 55mph. If the truck is equiped with a twin screw drive, same thing, 55mph.

When choosing a tag verses a pusher, watch if you go with a tag (behind the drive axle). It can be easy to cantilever to much weight onto the steer axle by applying the wrong amount of air pressure in the lift. On the other hand, this is not an issue with a pusher. We have run both types and prefer the pusher.
