Ummm..
There was no such thing as a Native American, in fact Canada's moniker seems to fit better then our PC version - first people.
America wasn't established when the Europeans arrived and I have yet heard a frick'n apology from England, France, Spain or the Netherlands over the invasion of this land - it is thrown up in the faces of the people who live here that we are at fault but we didn't have control over the peoples of that time.
In addition to that, the Indians as they are so commonly called, were part of a confederation, hence a country. They were like Europe in many ways but a different form of government, and a different culture. They had their wars, their mass killings and their slavery issues like the Europeans. They didn't just appear here out of thin air either but migrated from another land as the Europeans did. Their claim to being the First people may or may not be correct because we don't know who they conquered in order to establish themselves on the land, or if they killed off another race in doing so - no body knows. This does not take away the fact that the European settlers brought with them an attitude that the Indian was inferior, it was reflected in the attitude that they had about slaves, white or black.
To add to this, France, England, Spain and the Netherlands all owe our former slaves an apology and they should be the ones paying any reparations because it was their kings and Queens who gave permission to export slaves, creating the institution that we know as slavery in the United States. They also created a system that gave us indentured servitude which is still here in many different forms.
Now the French and Austrians should be apologizing to the Mexicans, they invaded and conquered Mexico when it was sort of an independent country. I don't recall the United States demanding that we have part of that action either time but fought our own war, a war without an occupation or trying to control Mexico after the fact. Nevertheless, the French and Austrians should be the target of the Mexicans if they want retributions for some unjust action against them in the past. We didn't just take the land they are trying to reclaim but paid for it in many different ways.
Deportation when possible
Yes it is a more cost effective method in dealing with the issue - here's why;
Our health care system has been burdened with the problems of maintaining facilities at the same time as providing health care to those who do not belong here. Most emergency room cases in the southwest and now appearing in some parts of the south east have been for those who have no legal or legitimate documentation and assumed to be in this country illegally.
We have setup clinics and programs in the southwest to deal with some of the issues of no or little health care for people who have been undocumented - aka invaders - and it has shifted money away from other programs, like education.
We have allowed our education system in some parts of the country to compensate for and pretty much condone the practice of undocumented children in to our education system without regards to cost.
Many of the times the invader, the undocumented worker if you want to call them, has to use a 'service' to obtain documentation in order to appear legal. These 'services' traffic in stolen identification and the hidden cause of this has cost the country billions of dollars, not to mention innocent individuals a lot of money to fix messes to their credit ratings and even paying vendors like credit card companies back. It is really easy for people who never went through identity theft to say it is no big deal but for those who have had to deal with the nightmare, deportation is justified.
Crime is another factor that is not included because it is hard to track the actual cost to the country. Just the Domestic Violence cost (intervention by the cops, arresting and housing the perp, adjudication of the case, consoling of the victim, social services to the victim, housing and protection of the victim) alone are three times as much as it should be and the bigger problem within the communities that house these invaders is the fact that 1 in 150 call the cops when it comes down to this one single crime and that reflects a bigger problem that crime flourishes in these communities and cost society more money int he long run. The other costs are crime against people outside the communities, where there is a cost related to investigation to solve crimes like murder and assaults.
So deportation is the best and most cost effective solution we actually have and if done properly with a fast tracked procedures, we can save the country billions in the long run.
I know you won't agree with it, that's alright because you are looking at the individuals you know not the real problems facing the country.
We have an immigration system that worked well before the first reform of 1965, since that time, we have lost what the country actually stands for and it is not an open border.
