There is plenty of talk around about having a national straight tax of 15 % on all items bought and do away with the IRS. I feel it would harm the military, small business and trucking industry. Am I wrong? 1st the military gets tax free status whiles in combat zone. If straight tax is in effect their spouse and family would be subject to a straight tax here while they are overseas. 2nd small business would have to pay taxes on money they recoup from doing business when they spend it. Say they spent $50,000 and had to pay 15% tax on it then they had to pay another 15% on that same 50,000 when they recoup it from their cost of goods sold (COGS). I know some will says that first $50,000 would be tax exempt but would you trust the goverment to be that smart. Then the expediter that would do away with your mileage exemption then you would have to pay 15% on all purchases you make including fuel. So if you gross $80,000 how would you like to pay 15% on all of that when it all isn't profit and you paid 15% on about 1/3 of the money you get from previous spent. Sounds like lots of doubling dipping. I would park my van and say good nite to expediting. I might be tottaly insane to think this way but figure the stright tax would greatly increase the elderly demise to a better living. Just think of a person drawing about 800.00 a month SS and then have to deduct $120.00 when they spend it. Hope if they do pass this item they would take more things in effect like food, medicine and payments to insurance but if you give our goverment a way to take our money they will. In Florida and some other states if you rent a business location you have to pay sales tax on it. Even in Ohio they were thinking of taxing the sales of your home, don't know if it went through or not. This is just a sample of taxing from the goverment that some may be unaware of.
