LINCOLN, Neb. -- South Dakota, North Dakota and Nebraska are leading the country when it comes to filling out and returning census forms.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha said Tuesday that census data released on Monday show that South Dakota is first, with a 58 percent of households having returned census forms. Nebraska is tied with North Dakota for the second-best overall participation rate, 57 percent.
A week ago Nebraska ranked fifth, North Dakota was third, South Dakota second and Montana ranked first.
The national return rate stands at 46 percent.
