This marks my 20th year expediting. Being based in Michigan I have crossed the border at least 400 times. In that time I have "been brought around" twice. Both times a quick search without any hassle. "Yes Sir, No Sir, Thank You, and a pleasant tone to your voice will go a long way in getting you across without a problem. If you do not know how to fill out the paperwork, ask before you cross. I have made a lot of money transfering loads from drivers who will not cross into Canada. Before PARS etc. it was a pain to cross, especially if your broker was Livingston. I spent a lot of hours in the compound waiting for clearance, now i cross both ways in seconds. Keep turning down those Canadian loads, some of us can use the money.
I am sure many of you in Michigan can use the money. More power to ya. While you're crossing the border like a ping-pong ball, some of us will gladly haul freight to warm , sunny climes of Texas, Georgia, Florida, Arizona, etc... making nice money and not missing the chill of those northern bordertown ghettoes.

In my personal case being a Canadian living in the US with a resident card and my wife being an American with a Canadian resident card just drives those guys in the booth crazy!!:D

Very funny, OVM.

In my van days I used to go up to Canada a lot, while the money was great. I refused to go for no money. So in the last 2 years in the van I went to Canada only once.

Now, in the tractor, I am not going up there. I refuse to have my truck castrated, even though I rarely go over 60. Plenty freight down here.

I have family in Ontario..I wouldn't mind getting paid to go visit since I DH into Canada..and Canada Customs is a breeze...

Far as I'm Concerned, When it comes to going to Canada, "I Didn't Leave Anything Up There that I Have to go back and Get!!" I Absolutely Refuse to go there. The People at the Border Stations are Rude and Obnoxious and I'm not going to Kiss anyone's Butt to go Into their Country and Sure Don't Expect them to Kiss Mine Either!! And I Sure don't Care for the U.S. Side Either when Crossing Back Over!! I Tried the Yes Sir/Maam No Sir/Maam On Both Sides But for some reason I Always got the Idiots who wanted to Show Me that They Are "God" So I Don't and Won't Cross That Border!! On the U.S. Side My Truck Has Been Searched (Which I Totally Understand as to Why) But they Trashed it up Both Times and Left it for me To Clean Up!! One Clown on the U.S. Side Threatened to Impound My Truck and Put me In Jail Because I Didn't Understand one of his Questions! Lucky for Me that there was a woman In the Booth With Him who Seen that it was about to get Ugly and Finished Asking me the Questions and Sent me on my Way!! I'm sure that Most Canadians As well as U.S. People are Really Decent People, But the One's On Both Sides of the Border In those Little Booths, Need to go to a "How to Treat People and Their Equipment School of Some Kind" Before Getting that Job!!
