"As President, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.

First, I'll stop spending 9 billion dollars a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning, and as President, I will end it.

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. "WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Robert Gates is proposing deep cuts to some big weapons programs such as the F-22 fighter jet as the Pentagon takes a hard look at how it spends money. Gates announced a broad range of cuts Monday to weapons spending, saying he plans to cut programs ranging from a new helicopter for the president to ending production of the $140 billion F-22 fighter jet."

The enemies of the US much be pinching themselves every day, thinking they must be dreaming when the new US president gives them another gift, concession or apology. He obviously meant every word of the three major points of this speech. After he eliminates our military power, surrenders our soverignty, and turns over our society to illegal invaders, our enemies will be able to take over the United States without firing a single shot. Possibly, all happening within the first four years of a president named Barack Hussein Obama.

Gates, nor Obama, is looking to eliminate our military power. Gates isn't looking to cut military spending, he's not asking for less money, he's merely looking to spend it more wisely, or, as he says, "The nation should stop pouring billions into futuristic, super-expensive F-22 jet fighters , pull the plug on new presidential helicopters and put the money into systems U.S. soldiers can use against actual foes."

"We must rebalance this department's programs in order to institutionalize and finance our capabilities to fight the wars we are in today and the scenarios we are most likely to face in the years ahead," Gates said.

Gates proposed speeding up production of the F-35 fighter jet . That program could end up costing $1 trillion to manufacture and maintain 2,443 planes. The military would buy more speedy ships that can operate close in to land. And more money would be spent outfitting special forces troops who can hunt down insurgents.

Doesn't sound like they're trying to eliminate out military power. Sounds like they're trying to strengthen it where it's currently weak.

Turtle, I find you conclusions to be flawed. Sec. Gates is being forced to deal with shrinking Defense budgets at a time in history that we should be expanding them greatly.

Increasing threats from multiple sources, the re-emergence of a Soviet style Russia and their incursions into this hemisphere again. China is a rapidly growing threat along with their puppets Iran and North Korea.

Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton made drastic cuts in defense and intelligence spending and that caused and is still causing the deaths of U.S. Citizens. Obama's cuts appear on the surface to be even deeper and in more critical areas than his two roles models did.

Consider the following: North Korea launches a multi-stage missile. That missile will be telemetered. We must have that telemetry. That takes up 100% of our resources. Every other target we watch is not covered during that 20-30 minute time frame. We could miss a first strike.

At no time during my 20 career did we have enough resources to cover more than 10-20% of the tasks we were charged with by the Congress. We are too weak now and getting weaker. It is not a good scenario.

It is more than obvious to a trained eye that the current resident of the White House does NOT have a clue as to what is really going on and how to deal with it. At best he is a total fool, at worst, it could be by design.

Look at this from a counter-intelligence stand point. This scenario played itself out untold numbers of times during the Cold War. These things I draw out did and still go on every day.

An "un-friendly agent" spots a young, good looking, smart kid. He has no good adult male role model and comes from a home with no father and often absent mother. He is drifting, looking for something to hang a life on without benefit of a proper upbringing. They introduce him to drugs and the "Party" life, he is often "wasted'. They introduce him to "role models" they teach him a new idea, the U.S. is bad. His young mind, often drugged, is easy to manipulate. He reads radical teachings. Soon, he is owned.

That is not made up; the Soviet used tactics like that in this country for decades and most likely continues today.

They used other tactics. Like a married man who can't keep his zipper closed, like Bill Clinton. He is open to blackmail, the fact that he lied to cover it up only increased the odds that a person like that could be compromised. Drug use, money problems, any weakness would be exploited.

The only real weapon we have is the pre-clearance security back ground checks. While not fool proof they do cut down on the problem. Back when I first got a clearance those checks could run as high as $100,000. They included polygraphs and psyche tests.

Example of questions from the shrink: Mr. Layoutshooter, married? Yes. Mr. Layoutshooter, are you satisfied with your sex life. Yes. Mr. Layoutshooter, describe your sex life to me. NO sir, you only have a need to know that I am satisfied and not running around, anything else is frankly none of your business. He smiled at that answer.

Obama has associations with people that would have precluded him from receiving a Top Secret Clearance. William Ayers is just one example.
We live in increasingly dangerous times. We need a VERY steady hand with solid experience to insure our safety. We do not have that. We have a president with no life experience, no military or intelligence experience and questionable character. That is not a very good combination.


With the current state of the world things can and might go downhill very quickly. Now is NOT the time for cuts of any kind. We need to continue to improve existing weapons systems and build new ones. We can ill-afford losing the F-22. Carter cut the B-1 and the B-1B's which helped to prolong the Cold War by years. We are building no new aircraft carriers. We are no longer working on missile defense systems, which should be a major priority.

Weakness breeds contempt and invites attack. That is a fact that has played out in history since day one. It has not changed. We may be in serious trouble.

May God help us all, we are going to need it.

When the US Govt., especially the military, starts spending money "more wisely" is when airplanes need to be alert for pig strikes in addition to birds. Any time a liberal president promises more effecient allocation of defense spending the translation is reduction. Remember what Carter and Clinton did to the military? Obama is quite a bit more liberal than either of them. We'll see what actually comes to pass, but he's deadly serious about those promises he made in that campaign speech.

Even though I have not been in the "business" for a very long time I know enough to know what "resources" have been orbited over the last 20 years or so. I know what types of "birds" are launched for which launch sites and how often they are used. None of that has changed, we only launch from two areas. We do not use the shuttle to orbit intell birds. Too many security problems with that system.

Too many in here take this as a game, MY GUY WON YOUR GUY LOST!!! That is sad. The fact the we do not require people of character or experience is killing us, like 9/11. The intell failures that lead to that attack were caused by Defense and itell cuts during the Clinton years. HE and his lack of character and experience made is fairly easy for that attack to be carried out. I DO hold him responsible.

I base my arguements, in the debate sense, on 20 years of experience. I was trying to give you just a glimpince of how things are in the real world. You will not hear them on the news shows. I can tell you one thing for sure, the American people have been lied to for decades. This country is just barely protected during the best of times for military spending. You all should be scared out of your wits now.

It takes a while to see the results of the stupidity. Just as the breakdown that started with Clinton did not show it's ugly head until 9/11 it could take a few years to things to really break down.

I too have heard Gates speak and he claims Obama is very mindful and dependent on what Mr. Gates thinks, Taking great stock in what he thinks should be done with both upgrading and cost cutting in the Defense Dept. ONCE AGAIN: Secretary Gates says that Obama LISTENS to him. He told it to Bob Shieffer on CBS This Morning about 2 weeks ago. I saw it. You are misinformed. You are propogating wishful thinking. No, my facts are not wrong. Sec Gates is a good team player. He is also very restricted to what he is allowed to say do to security clearance concerns. The loss of the F22 would almost insure that we will no longer maintain air superiority and will ceed that to the New Axis.

When I was working tasking and targeting I had right around 270 National Priority One level targets that I was responsible for. I worked for only one, albiet the largest, division of one agency that used the "resources". If I was given control of 100% of the "toys" I was able to really monitor only ONE battalion of ONE of those Pri one targets.

That meant that in that frequency range NO OTHER TARGETS were being covered, not one. I had that chance only once for an entire week. It was amazing to see just how much information we were missing, and very sobering. That one battalion had, by the only, onlyhad 9 independent targeted nuke warheads. So I guess that was not all that important. Of course there were 3 battalions with each division so 2 were not being watched from that division, oh yeah, there were somewhere around 30 divisions too. Do the math.

I don't get my info from the news networks, ANY of them. I don't get it from the goofey internet sources, of ANY political ilk. I do KNOW were every type of intell bird is launched from in this country. I know what type of launch vehicals are used. The launches are sort of anounced but seldom covered. I do keep track, we are in no better shape than we were back then, and considering the much greater number of targets/priority one targets, we are in far worse shape.

You don't have a clue what I am talking about rocket. You have no frame of reference and no idea where to look for the information to become informed and I would bet that you don't even care. Most Americans don't. Most would prefere to just flip the news on, believe what they hear and then crack another brew and watch the game. To really pay attention and try to learn this stuff is very time consuming, very difficult and scary. We don't like scary. I remember stories about projects that I was working on in my prior life. It was really amazing just how wrong and very slanted the reporting on those projects were. I often did not even recognize what they were talking about till half way through a report when they would through in a "word or two" that clued me in.

I am NOT wanting things to fail. I spent a lifetime trying to stop a war. Barry during that time, as he got old enough, was running with those who backed our enemies. THAT to is a fact.

I write this NOT for propaganda but to sound the alarm before it is just too late to recover. Things move much faster now and time is running out. We will not have a year to recover from the next Pearl Harbor, and it is coming. We will have only weeks.

You can make fun, ridicule me or what ever all you want. I do challenge you to PROVE me wrong. Go over the intell launches, both polar and equatorial, for the past 20 years. Explain why some birds are in polar orbits, where the polar birds are launched from and why and what type of targets are looked at by those polar orbit birds as opposed to a geo-sync bird etc. You get back to me when you get that info, it IS out there. I know how to find it. I vote based on THAT kind of information, do you?

I trust Gates but I don't think he will make it for an entire 8 years with Obama, I fear that he will continue to tell Obama, and strongly, what is what and will either get fired or quit to spend more time with his family or treat a life threating illness. Just look what happened to Bobby Inman, he always was outspoken and he quit the business. Look him up, he is a true intell guru. The most flat out intelligent I ever worked for.

That is what happens when you vote for the "Next American Idol" rather than for the president. This was the most appauling election that I can remember. McCain did not run and Obama just ran around looking to be adored. Neither candidate said much of anything. And the sheepeople ran in and voted on the sound bites and did NOTHING to find out what was true or nor. Yea obummer wants missile defense cut and then North Korea launches a missile that has a proven range of 2000 miles. How can anyone have a problem with a system that is only for protection? Oh wait this is the same guy that goes to muslim country to tell them that the US isn’t a Christian country when over 85% of the people are Christian. Democrats always cut defense programs first all the while telling you how they are making us stronger. I guess its cheaper to replace a Marine or Solider than it is to give them what they need to defend themselves. Advanced weapon systems include forward deployed sensors. They are very expensive they are dropped by a plane they record and relay info on troop movements without these systems you will have to place troops in those forward locations far from any backup if they are spotted.
