Recently I spent the restart in an area of OHIO thats Ideallic in its surrounding, Beautiful homes, Nice clean shops, Walmart or Lowes allows trucks, I enjoyed a nice dinner at Chilis and was relaxing to the sound of rain on the sleeper, went to sleep and awoke the next day, again enjoying the area, walked and checked out some shops..BUT THAT NIGHT....Listening to my scanner I hear ARMED STRONG ARM ROBBERY IN ACTION very near my location, then 10 Mins later, another strong arm robbery....and then a fight at the McDonalds right across the parking lot where Im at, 5-6 police cruisers and lots of noise and actions.....that settles down and the scanner says MAN WITH A GUN IN THE ALLEY BEHIND LOWES....Im begginning to think Im not in as nice an area as I thought, the scanner announces several more domestic abuse cases, teenegaer partys and two women fighting on the interstate, IN THE ROAD....This morning I moved to another location about 25 miles away.....and back to thinking and enjoying the Ideallic setting of fall in the north.....

When I was home last time I parked my boat in a backwater marsh off of Lake Erie. We had the place to our selves. NO crime there that day. THAT is safe parking. Good catfishing too!

Thats a slow night compared to when i was in memphis.

Yeah man, even in the parking lot of an upscale hotel in an upscale neighborhood outside of Memphis, the nighttime security guard (I was surprised there even was one) told me, when I went out to get something out of my van years ago before I was expediting, that the inner city gang dudes would often come cruise the hotel lot and pop locks with the simple thrust and twist of a screwdriver to gain access to a vehicle's contents.

That said, all the time I've spent in and around Memphis, down on Beale, at local juke joints in the hood, or anywhere really, I never had a problem.

I lived there and had many car radios stolen. Someone attempted to steal my car but set off the alarm and ran. I've been shot at in Walmart parking lots in Bartlett and Cordova. There are no longer any upscale areas in Memphis anymore.

ya I would expect that in certain areas but this was an upscale, upper middle class shopping district but as soon as the sun went down there were at least 10 different brands of Police units patrolling it,
Now on another SAFE PARKING ISSUE...Here in OHIO at an unamed Truckstop, I sat and watched as countless drivers attempted to back rigs into parking places and couldnt do it, and many more guys just drive by and block lanes and act selfish....didnt there used to be respect to let a guy back in without blasting past him....or PARKING ON THE FUEL ISLAND....I saw a Panther Semi sit on the fuel island for over and hour and a half, he put the fuel nozzle in to make it look liike he was fueling....HE DIDNT CARE they were backed up all around him....PANTHER SEMI....Your a jerk, you got no respect for your fellow drivers, and while you played cherry machines or played with yourself some one was watching...and many drivers were disgusted by your actions, all the while your truck said I WORK FOR PANTHER....as you blocked the fuel island and thumbed your nose at the rest of the men who needed to fuel and go.....CREEP !!

I don't know what the deal is around Memphis but that place is BAD. I was watching some emergency surgery show on Nat'l Geo about Chicago's Cook county hospital. They said they treat more than 40 gunshot victoms a month and more people die at that hospital with gunshot wounds than died last year in Afganistan. I was raised in Chicago but it has really gotten bad in the last 10 yrs with the Gangs.

after years working on the Trauma Unit in a Cleveland hospital, apparently the most dangerous thing anyone can do, ever, is 'mind their own business', cause that's what every single assault victim was doing when someone tried to kill them.
We try to avoid the biggest threats, and the most dangerous places, but bad things happen in broad daylight in good neighborhoods, too. It's true: there are no guarantees.

I had several people come up to me last night in the truck stop giving me the WE BROKE DOWN and need gas money to get home story....another guy had a better pitch, he offered to clean my trucks exterior for 10 bucks, do all the glass, polish the chrome, and wiped down the major portion of the truck, he said he had fallen on bad times but believed in working for his living....I gave the guy a 10 spot, he did a fine job cleaning, wiping etc...and was an Intelligent guy....I feel sorry for those that have these issues, he admitted he was an alcoholic....I told him a short story about Jesus, he said he had tried that and this etc.....I asked him If I could say a prayer with him and he accepted and away he went....I hope he felt a touch of GOD.....and keeps his spirit alive by working instead of begging....
