I'll hunt a Gates next time. My local Advance was even out of the Dayco belt last week. I'll locate a Gates and return the house brand one I got. I still have my "emergency belt" on there now.

If you can't find the good Gates belt, I just installed a new one on my van and still have another brand new spare Gates belt I could send you. I kept my old gates for a spare also.

How often do you guys change serpentine belts? I replace mine every 100,000 miles as part of the tune-up, along with spark plugs, ignition wires etc.

Not a bad idea. I never did until it was getting all cracked up. But after running a defective one for 55,000 miles I like your idea better.

Good news. It is really annoying to have spent a bunch of time chasing down a simple fix but sometimes you just have to laugh about it.
