Class speaks and the lack of class also speaks. The lack of class usually always speaks for Obama. The giddies will be along soon enough to justify his decision I'm sure, in their own minds. There is no legitimate justification for him.

He is sending Joe to Arlington while he goes back to Chicago for the long weekend, I guess the "village" misses their "Idiot".... While he continues to show his disrepect for the Military Traditions or anything to do with our Military, he is going to have his own "time" at the Abe Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.......

Obamas' visit back home leaves Chicagoans guessing - Chicago Breaking News

Oh, but i did hear he will be back in DC in time for the Paul McCarty concert Tues.....

I missed it. What, exactly did Obama do?
President Obama has chosen not to attend the traditional Memorial Day service at Arlington National Cemetery. It's just another break from tradition by a very nontraditional president.

It's probably just as well that Obama doesn't go to these events. He is held in such low regard by the US military, they are most likely relieved he isn't coming to pay respects to our war dead. By skipping out, both sides avoid a lot of phoniness: Obama doesn't have to pretend he cares and the military doesn't have to pretend they respect him.

Really? You mean like when President Reagan attended a "summit meeting" in Williamsburg on Memorial Day in 1983, while Deputy Secretary of Defense W. Paul Thayer laid a wreath at Arlington Cemetery? That tradition? Or the one in 1992, George H.W. Bush attended a Memorial Day ceremony in Kennebunkport and then played a round of golf, while VP Dan Quayle laid the wreath at Arlington? That tradition? How about in 2002 when President George W. Bush commemorated Memorial Day at Normandy while on vacation? Is that the tradition you're talking about?

Or maybe it's the tradition in 2007 when VP Dick Cheney laid the customary wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier while President George Bush remained in Texas. Yeah, that must be the one.

In order to be a break from tradition, it has to be unprecedented, and this isn't.

It's probably just as well that Obama doesn't go to these events. He is held in such low regard by the US military, they are most likely relieved he isn't coming to pay respects to our war dead.
Isn't the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery a national military cemetery within the Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration where scores of our military war dead lay buried? (that's rhetorical, I already know the answer) I'll give you three guesses as to which President's signature enacted the law establishing national cemeteries for soldiers who die in service to our country.

By skipping out, both sides avoid a lot of phoniness: Obama doesn't have to pretend he cares and the military doesn't have to pretend they respect him.
Because he cares so little for the military, I guess that's why he gave the commencement address at West Point last week to an enthusiastic reception. It was so enthusiastic that you could barely hear the snarls and hisses over the standing ovation.

Obama shows up when it suits his purposes. Like a tightly controlled script at West Point where cadets have no choice but to sit there and endure long-winded speeches on foreign policy. Obama attends photo opps where he cannot be challenged. He hasn't given a real news interview with the press in a long time because he doesn't want to annoyed by tough questions. Bush did the same thing after a while in office.

Bush had genuine love and respect for our military. To say Obama enjoys enthusiastic support is laughable. Totally absurd. Perhaps some of the General staff who are jockeying for another star on their shoulder play kiss-up with Obama. Generals and admirals are little more than politicians themselves.

Wow, I refute all of your points, and in response you bring up totally new points. OK.

Obama shows up when it suits his purpose. Yep, just like most presidents in most situations. Nothing new there.

A tightly controlled script at West Point? It's the same tightly controlled script at every West Point commencement where cadets are forced to sit there and listen to long winded speeches of whoever is giving the address. Nothing new there, either.

Obama attends photo ops where he cannot be challenged. Yeah, never seen any other President do that sort of thing. <snort>

Obama doesn't give many real news interviews, same as Bush. Lots of Presidents gave few real news interviews.

Bush had genuine love and respect for the military. Did he?

"To say Obama enjoys enthusiastic support is laughable. Totally absurd."

Is it absurd to say that? I didn't say that, but I don't think it's absurd to say that. He did enjoy an enthusiastic reception at West Point, tho.

"Perhaps some of the General staff who are jockeying for another star on their shoulder play kiss-up with Obama."

Could be, I dunno. He's their boss, so probably, yeah.

"Generals and admirals are little more than politicians themselves."

That much is true. Can't get to be a general or an admiral without having a good grasp of politics, both within and without the military.

But back to that tradition thing that he's breaking with. Forgive my stupidity, as I've obviously missed it. Which tradition is he breaking with, again?

I was making the case it is a tradition for presidents to attend Memorial Day services at Arlington. Never said it is unprecedented for a prez to skip one. It would be an appropriate gesture to attend, but Obama has vacation plans this weekend and then a Paul McCartney concert at the White House on Tuesday. His social calendar trumps propriety. He needs to keep Michelle so busy she doesn't have time to think about Vera Baker.
