Vehicles produce CO2. We bail out the auto industry.

Coal burning produces CO2. We let em fail.

Another missed chance to be a hero. Could have thrown some of that bail out money into helping coal companies retrofit the old plants and become "clean" saving an industry and creating more jobs which translates into more votes.
Just my penny in the pond.:) can't remember where I heard that one, hmmm?

Sad part about the coal industry is as they close the mines and plants, they have no real alternatives. People serviced in those regions will be paying a crazy amount for electric because these areas will have to purchase power from other electric companies.
Just another hidden tax due to EPA over regulating.

Obama's attack on the coal industry will cost Democrats some seats in Congress. Here in central Kentucky, Congressman Ben Chandler (D), held onto to his seat by some 500 votes in 2010. This time around, Andy Barr might knock out the incumbent.

Just part of Obama's war on the middle class and the union coal miners will STILL vote for him.

its all backwards...IF I owned the company....these 2 are trying to put ME out of business and Obama has openly said his intentions...I'd want to make the most impact for my buck....layoff the union workers at all costs to save my business....

I have NO idea why they are doing it this way. Nothing makes sense these days.

What typically happens in Eastern Kentucky is a UMWA rep will approach non-union miners and convince them they need union representation. More often than not, a mining operation which votes in union representation becomes less productive, less coal gets mined, absenteeism goes up and profit goes down. The business owner now faces the loss of millions of dollars. They decide it is better to cease mining operations for an indefinite period of time.

After a 3-5 year hiatus, the mine reopens under new ownership and a fresh non-union workforce. The unspoken and unwritten message gets out to the miners that if the UMWA gets voted in again, the mine will close again. Eventually, the miners understand that unions kill jobs.

This should be no surprise, he said he would do it...

Obama's destruction of the coal industry is one campaign promise he kept. No way Obama will carry coal states like Kentucky or West Virginia in the upcoming election. Pennsylvania and Ohio produce coal on a smaller scale and their pro-coal voters are greatly outnumbered by UAW workers and lovers of Big Government. If the GOP could sway Ohio and Pennsylvania, Romney would fare better. But, it isn't likely to happen as the northern states are too ingrained with the union mentality. This is why so many automotive manufacturers are moving their operations to right-to-work states in the South.

Nor should they. They SHOULD be out SLAMMING Obama for his anti workers policies, but they won't.
Union workers won't need a check , because they will be getting an entitlement check and therefore working for a living is unnecessary, you all just forgot that little thingie, but IIIIIIIIIIIIII didn't.lol

I also would guess that coal miners , now this is a guess are not black people unless they are covered in coal dust, so losing all those white votes is a mute point imho.

I have known of a few black, before getting covered in coal dust, miners, but not many. My dad spent 37 years in a salt mine. VERY few black salt miners and most only lasted a few weeks. Except for the one that robbed the bank after work one day, he only lasted two days, before the robbery that is. None after. Got caught within 15 minutes of the deed. Not a smart bank robber.
