Canada New Laws In Canada

Alrighty, for your info...
In Manitoba please remember the new law that affects all of us.
When on the road and you come upon an emergency vehicle at the side of the road, you must:
1: REDUCE SPEED!! yes you have to slowdown (try at least 20-30kph or
15-20mph)
2: GIVE ROOM this means change lanes or at least move over away from the emergency vehicles!

Next, in Ontario the law for mandated speed limitation has had 2nd reading and passed. This means only once more and if passed 3rd reading becomes law. However for now it goes to committee where it should spend the summer and in the fall come up for 3rd and final reading in the legislature.
The law basically states that all trucks coming into Ontario must be electronically speed limited to 105kph or 65mph.
Fortunately for most truckers their units if 5 years old or newer already have a limiter built in. It's just a matter of having them set to this limit. The Owner Operators assoc here is fighting this law but not to much avail. All the large trucking companies and the trucking assoc are championing the law.
The benefits are reduced fuel consumption and the knowledge everyone else is limited. Unfortunately no one has stated if the limit is speedo reading or actual (radar tested) speed.
Have fun driving in Canada people

Everyone else? Or just other trucks? It's gonna be fun watching trucks pass each other when they all go 65. Just watch the calls from citizens saying the 401 is backed up a mile cause Bison is drag racing CanAm. I venture it won't last long. Til then, no Canada for me.

Makes me wonder what they'll do with just Canadian trucks going across.

Everyone else??? You mean limit them thar politicians to only 105kph??? Hahahaha fat chance!!! Sorry only trucks! Remember trucks don't have to get there that fast. There be too many on the road so everyone is getting freight on time... didn't you know that??? Nope them politicians haveto get to their cottage real fast on Friday nights.

I don't think everyone running the same speed will be safe. Can you imagine the size of the packs of trucks going down the road. I hate running in those packs. That's why I like having the power to get away from them. Doesn't seem very safe to me.

It would be nice if everyone slowed down or moved over for EVERY (occupied) vehicle on the shoulder. If you've ever stood there, getting blown away by the breeze of passing vehicles, you'd know why - it's truly scary.

I certainly try to move over, if traffic permits. Unfortunately many 4-wheelers think a left signal on a truck means "please drive beside me at my speed."

I agree with you and cherri there about the problems with traffic and the fast traffic as you sit at the roadside. I find many ppl don't like being behind a truck of any size and therefore will try to get ahead or not let you in. Remember they can't see around you and that makes some car drivers extremely nervous, anxious. Dare we raise that road rage issue especially if the truck slows down more and they can't see that you let someone else in???
BTW the 105kph limit is also going through in Quebec and so the expeditor vans (b units) will be faster through Ont and Que.
