Legally I believe Plus Services is right when you are off duty you are off duty.

As I recall there was a button that would mute it. I would push the speak button and listen to just enough to know if I needed to stop right away or not and then mute it to avoid the pain of listening to it butcher language. It's been long enough since testing that I don't recall which button but it was on the remote control as I recall.

Push the speak button, listen enough to see what it is, push 'right' arrow, then 'left'.. it will remove the lighted envelope 'new message' notification. Either way, if you tap the "home" icon, it will exit the message and go back to home screen.
