I dont think you will get home weekends. I think you need to have a heart to heart with the owner before you do anything else.

1. Am I paid before or after truck expenses?
2. Am I paid if I have to attend any training?
3. Do I like my co-driver enough to sit with them for 1-3 days at a time doing absolutely nothing other than maintainence on the truck?
4. What is the contract terms I have to sign?
5. What happens if you and I want to divorce ourselves?
6. What happens if the truck breaks down and there is no paycheck that week out in the field?

Just askin.

What kind of truck? No way to insure that you can be home on the weekends. Sorry, it just is not going to happen if you work this business right.

No matter where you go to work,or whom you work for, just remember one important thing,
If the truck is sitting cause your home,or taking time off, there is no income, and you wont be making any money.
So therefore how much time off would you want?
FDCC would like the truck to be available for dispatch at least 22 days a month.
At the 60% pay rate, that usually means the drivers are buying the fuel, and should also be getting 100% of the fuel surcharge, that is being paid to the owner for that run.
Make sure your see a contract

Single driver not a team? I just do not see how you can be home on the weekends and make any money.

Shooter,if he lives in one of the cities moving LG,and doesnt care about the dead head miles,he could be home every week end,but wouldnt be making much money, maybe hes independently wealthy

That would be the only way. I don't even think about those loads, I have not run one in over a year. It would be a lot of DH.

This all new to me so I dont know how this work.Im just stating on what the O/O told me.I did kind of found it odd when he said that I will make 600-800 a week only running 4-5 days a week.Im going call him tomorrow and get more details.Im not looking to make 1200 or 1500 a week,it would be nice. But I cant be out no more than 2 weeks out.

Thats how I get home, when I want to go home,I take the first load offered close to Chicago or Trenton, then get LG home.Out of Romeoville, load puts me 30 miles from home, out of Jamesburg,100 miles from home.
Then I don't mind the discount

Going home every week or two is tough enough, but going to Fl, which is not a hotspot for expediting, is going to suck up most of your income for fuel. And I can't imagine an owner who doesn't mind having the truck out of service every, or even every other, weekend.
Hope you'll clarify everything with the owner before you go to orientation....

Forget expediting at this time. Not to sound harsh, but here's the short version of things. You need to spend a few dozen hours reading these forums to learn what "typical" expediting is all about. I will soon be criticized and told there's nothing typical about expediting and to some extent that's true. One fairly typical thing is expediting is driving from point A to point B to C, D, E, F, G, C, H, I, J, K, L, B, M, N, O, P, C, Q..... with a few times being to the same customer and most being unique each time. If you lived around OH or other central location you might get near enough home to go home every 2 or 3 weekends. From Tampa you'll be way too far from home to deadhead home.

As to who pays and how you are paid, that's partly covered frequently in here (who pays what) and how you are paid is based on how the owner does things.

Again, I'm not trying to pick on you personally, but you need to have a stronger foundation in expediting in general to understand what this field is all about and to know all the questions to ask before accepting any position. Most importantly, be sure you have a written agreement if/when you finally do anything.

Good luck to you but I don't think this career is right for you at this time given your need to be home.

you live in Fl and need to be home at least every two weeks, you need to find a company in FL cause that is the only way you will ever get loaded home evry two weeks.Expedite wont be for you
