Hello all,

I'm new to Expediting. I live near Lancaster, Ohio. Thats 33 miles S.E. of Columbus, Ohio. I have a 2004 Chevy Express 17 ft. Uni-Cell. I've just recently built a movable wall inside to create a universal bunk area. I can utilize up to 15 feet of box space for freight. This truck is not dock height and I guess would be considered a B. Question #1 What company would be best for this type of van to utilize all of it's space and to make the most money possible? Question #2 Do I have to run a log book with this van since the GVW is 12,000 lbs.?

Thanks Markin8342

Hello all,

Start calling around Monday morning. Your best bet would be with a smaller carrier.

Question #2 Do I have to run a log book with this van since the GVW is 12,000 lbs.?

Yes you will need to log and scale.

yes, what moot said.
since you are over 10k you no longer are a b unit.
it might be considered a c unit. some companies make sprinters c units for their height. you could become a c for the extra weight over a van.

sounds like a nice truck. got pix?

what does the truck weigh empty with you?

Thanks for the reply, I don't have pics yet or mt weight with me in it. Mt weight b4 doing the wall is 8,000 lbs. I plan to get the exact weight at a cat scale with a full tank of fuel and me in it soon. I just finished the wall. I had an alarm system installed. I also installed a 3000 watt/ 6000 watt peak Power Inverter and a larger alternator with a 2nd marine battery. I'm planning to run a small fridge and microwave. I'll send ya some pics when it is finished. I talked to you b4. About a month ago. You gave me some good advice. I'm not sure if I want to put my truck on with Bolt or not though. I'm a little leary right now after talking with a driver that has 2 trucks on at Fed Ex Custom Critical. He said that when the fuel was high, Bolt drivers were sitting and so was Panther. He said that Fed Ex is large enough to keep you moving. It sounds great, but I called Fed Ex and they aren't puting any trucks on right now. I need to start making some moola. I'm almost ready to call Bolt again, my only problem is start up cost. How much money do you recommend just to get started. It takes money for fuel, insurance, and any other unforseen costs. Bolt holds back 2 weeks b4 you get paid also.
Whats your opinion?
Thanks Markin8342

all joke aside , i think you might have got it wrong ...
# 1 business decision need to be : where do i get the freight from , and what my carrier needs are !
then you buy the best tool for the job .
obviously ,i do not know the whole story , you might have this ,well equipped van ,payed for Ext... ,and have very little choices ,
yet reading the last few weeks on the forum ,and you will know more...
once you are over 10K ,you will be competing among truckers that can scale out @ 26 to 33 K , on one side,
and with Vans that can load for less on the other side
stating that you need to have money generated ASAP , and having to be payed in 2 weeks will be a task for you .
and it is look like you do not have the necessary start up bank , that will lead you to a poor choice as to the best carrier for you .
keep in mined that changing carriers costs money too.
the more you tell us , the better we can help.

welcome ,
good luck
happy holidays

Moose that was so cruel! But probably true. A vehicle like that would be best suited for local stuff.

as not being dock high, your going to be classified a B unit, and as freight is very slow now, unless you obtain your own authority, most of the larger carriers are not putting B units on.Sorry to be the barrer of bad news, but its true.In the expedite business, there are to many small trucks now and not enough freight to move.I know this isn't what you want to hear, but, good luck

Back in the Day he would be a Super "B" Mostly B loads With a few C Loads...Very Few since he is not Dock High, This Time of Year is bad to Start anywhere with a Van, The small Local Company that I'm with now is Sending Vans Packing, Trying to keep the Good Drivers happy.
