At the Transit test drive in Chicago last week I drove the diesel, ecoboost and the 3.7. All had 2000# loads strapped down in the rear. The 3.7 felt stronger then my current 4.8 gm engine. I believe the 6 speed transmission has a lot to do with that power. Lower first gear and 2 overdrive gears. Much better gear spread then the 4 speeds have.

I am really curious as to what the empty weight of these are, high roof, longest wheelbase. Weight over front and rear axles as well, empty, and what each is rated for. Was the 2 grand making it squat a lot in the rear, and where was that weight placed? How was the handling and braking with that 2 grand in it? Just wondering....lol...I guess I just need to go look at one this weekend when I get home.

The 2,000# was not making the van squat at all. The weight was 8' long rubber mats stacked about 12" from inside of rear doors. Brakes were amazing. floored the van, got to the end of test track and slammed on brakes to make the corner. no problem stopping. I got all the specs on the longest/tallest 350 van. It weighs 5,510 empty. Front curb weight is 2,942 and rear curb weight is 2,568. It has a front load capacity of 4,130# and a rear load capacity of 6,000#. So, it appears that you could load very heavy towards the rear of the van The door sticker shows a GVWR of 9,500#. Paperwork shows 3,930 available payload. This van that I built had some extra weight in the form of the ecoboost engine, running boards and a class 3 trailer package.

The diesel has to add a decent amount of weight eh?

Sorry, never checked the weight of a diesel powered unit. But, they were very quiet and had impressive acceleration. Noticed it had a gauge on the dash showing exactly how full some filter was. The diesel I drove showed 35% capacity. Not sure what it was, maybe that exhaust filter?

They come with LT235/65R16 BSW S-rated tires on steel wheels. Didn't check the sidewall rating but the tires on my current CV are rated for 3,042 each when used on a srw axel.
