"Moving day"???

In light of the statements made by some people that if the other guy wins, they're moving to Canada, I have a couple of questions. How many here have suitcases packed? How many of your neighbors have requested your services to help them move on short notice?

I know of a couple of guys on another forum, on opposite ends of the political spectrum, who had made statements about moving several months back, but who now deny ever having said it. I guess the actual business of having to move to Canada "because the other guy won" is a bit more formidable a prospect than they figured it would be. Too bad in one sense, it would be worth it to me to get a passport for all the work of moving malcontents North of the border. It should pay decent, if nothing else.

Don't know about the Canadians moving back, but there are 25,000 Mexicans jumping fences, walking through those tunnels at El Paso looking for that college tuition money, a free drivers license, and social security checks, but, that's old news. PS- that is how Presidents get elected now in America and it is now a snowball rolling now and the new demographics are piling up that way. This was also complicated by more women voting, and teenagers and folks below 30. Romney missed the boat there, but he was not for them so much. It can be an age thing where the kids cannot relate to an old man father figure and,,,,and maybe many of those young people don't have a Dad, think about it. It is a sign of the times now( real or stay at home parents or if you might say, those that don't divorce every 5 years) . yawning now....?

I don't think women and the younger generation voted for Romney because he is out of touch with today's view...maybe if he wasn't busy telling them what to do with their bodies or denying them the right to marry they would feel differently. Democrats are beating Republicans bc the Republican party can't keep their god out of every issue so many people are picking what they feel is the lesser of two evils.

Them bloody malcontents. How dare they be disgusted with the direction of the country and what that "other guy" is leading us to. They have to be more like those people in deep blue Illinois who are conforming to their leader, in lock step.

I voted straight Republican, for what it's worth. The fellows I mentioned on another forum bracket the range of politics, one is incredibly far right and swore at one time to abandon the country if Obama won again, though now he denies ever having said that. The other was ready to call U-Haul the instant Romney won, certain his life was in danger if he stayed. He hasn't denied ever saying that, but he did change his mind shortly before the election. Strange thing, he lives in Lower Michigan and if he had decided to leave it's maybe two hours from his place to Windsor, Ontario. Note that Michigan is at least as blue a state as Illinois is. Further: I looked at the state map earlier, and-- Chicago is largely the reason Illinois is blue. Downstate is mostly red.

First off, voting for ANY evil shows what kind of honor people hold.

Secondly, if you were paying attention, Romney was running as a liberal. I think the message here is that you can't out-liberal a socialist.

Right we know liberals don't want to tax the rich more, they don't want to cut defense spending, they don't want less regulation, they don't want less restrictions on coal and oil. They don't want to keep obamacare.

Romney's stance on same sex marriage is so liberal

I don't know quite how to tell you this, but---- I'm not exactly a liberal. I'm pretty far to the right, and truth to tell Romney was way to far to the Left for his own good. No reason to vote for the almost-Democrat when you can have the real thing.

I was responding to Skyraiders rant and Tennesseehawks comment on women and young people voting to be honest...but it's the far right that's killing republicans. Republicans have a better grasp on some issues but they are losing life long voters like me bc I'm tired of their far right bible thumping stance on issues like same sex marriage, abortion and the whole lost drug war. Until they step into this century they are a lost cause to me and I previously campaigned for republicans in some local elections!!

"I'll be better than Ted Kennedy." on gay rights.
Free college for top 1/4 of HS graduates.
Humans contribute to global warming.
"My positions won't make me a hero to the NRA."
Supported assault weapons ban.
Pro choic/life flip flopper.
Gay marriage flip flopper.

Now, I know he is conservative on a lot of things, especially economics. But the man sounds like a flippin libtard during campaigning. I haven't heard that much flip flopping since Kerry... and Clinton before that. So, my opinion that he ran as a liberal stands.

Romney lost because he tried to be too much like Obama. Why vote for the almost-Obama when you can have the real thing?

I voted for Romney, however there are people I know who kept their vote because "the lesser of two evils is still evil" and voting for Romney was voting for someone not anywhere near as far Right as they are. I am a member of the Christian Right politically, and-- yes, I will vote for traditional values. We didn't have a presidential candidate this time around that actually had those values. Obama is far to the Left, and Romney--- is whatever he needs to be to get you to vote for him, depending on which group he's talking to tonight. If he had been elected, he would be whatever he needed to be to keep campaign dollars flowing in for his next re-election. That is not exactly acceptable to many I know in church circles.

I understand that you feel that way but that's what is killing republicans...too many people are not in favor of laws that are based on someone else's religious views. It's okay for you to not do it yourself but it's not okay for you to deny others rights like marriage bc you think same sex marriage is a sin.

Exactly...the right wing hardcore GOP is stuck in the 30's when the white male vote carried the land.....

They completely missed the boat again this time....9% of registered voters Hispanic soon to be over 10 % and they were completely ignored, the women's vote....same thing....ignored or told to go back to the kitchen...

In a futile attempt to get back to subject: Have any of your neighbors requested help to move North, or are suitcases still unpacked and no sign of U-Haul stuff. I asked this because every election we hear folk say if the wrong guy wins, they're leaving the country. So far, no one has requested my help, either in packing boxes or in using my van to help them move, but--- you never know.

The hispanics weren't ignored. The majority of them just didn't like that the GOP wasn't for amnesty. As for women, nobody was told to go back into the kitchen. The Dems as usual demagoged the "war on women" narrative.

Well for one, going through Chicago costs an arm and a leg. The price of gas is sky high there and the tolls will clean out your wallet fast. So there is that. Secondly, winter is coming so your political buddies are probably reluctant to move to the great white north just yet. Brrrrr. Give it at least till spring. ;)

I have no friends i can think of that are so stubborn they threaten to move if their person didn't win. If i did though you can bet i would be reminding them of it.
