More state government intervention

I suppose you’ve heard that the Brand Board took over brand inspection on July 1st. I can’t tell you how idiotic I think turning the brand inspection program over to a government agency is, but I had hoped that it would at least start out smoothly. That doesn’t appear to be the case. An article in the Rapid City Journal this week told of small packing plants in Wall and Philip that weren’t able to find brand inspectors when they needed them. The butcher shop at the Jack and Jill Store in Bison had the same problem and had to turn customers away. That was just one of the things the Brand Board never thought about when they took control of the program.
I also got a call from SoDak Angus after Vaughn Meyer couldn’t find a brand inspector to inspect a replacement bull for one of his customers. If any of you have problems with the new inspection program, call Gov. Rounds at 773-3212, Brand Board Chairman Mark Kimball at 337-3448, or the Brand Board office at 773-3324. This is program now belongs to Gov. Rounds and the Brand Board and it is their responsibility to fix what isn’t working. You can find a list of brand inspectors and shippers agents with their phone numbers at South Dakota State Brand Board but there aren’t many listed from this area.
If the incompetence of the Brand Board’s governmental takeover of brand inspection wasn’t damaging livestock producers and packing plants, I’d probably be able to see some humor in this. As it is, I’m reminded of this quote by Will Rogers: “I don't make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.”

Are we supposed to sympathize with these big rich ranchers and their big cows who go moo in the night?

God if this is your only problem, try getting a stop sign on your street - first the township says it is the counties problem, then the county says the township handles is then the township tells you that the county took their signs aways from them and then the county says that the state police needs to do a traffic study of the entire area to see if there is a need for a stop sign then the state police says it is the county's job to do the traffic study then the county holds a garage sale without telling the public and sells the 114 stop signs that they had for $5 each (10% of cost) which some relative of the Mayor of Detroit bought for the aluminum in them then turned around to sell them to the scrap dealer here in town which the township bought every one of them for $20 each and wants the county to pay for them which now the county says they are so strapped for cash that they can't afford to buy the stop signs back or even buy the metal posts for them which now we get the news that the township has the signs but can't put them up because the county is the only one who has the machine that puts the post in the ground and and they can't provide the posts so in the last township meeting, the question was brought up why did the township buy 114 stop signs and a resolution was passed to sell the signs for $15 each to the county but the county doesn't want the signs. All the while we have had two traffic studies done the city of Detroit who has nothing to do with the area, we are going to have paved streets which will make the need for a four way stop a must, all the while our supervisor says he has brought the township into the 21st century.

Gee Greg... I was only pointing out the spread of this cancer called "government" How 'control" is even out here. Most of the ranchers in western SD don't subscribe to the farm subsidy program...most want it gone. They know how much taxpayer money is wasted. You have a problem with a moo???

You big money maker from the east...you worry about a lousy stop sign? Talk about trivial?

Gee OVM, really I do have a problem with a moo, not enough of it in my freezer!

I know what you are getting at and my little trivial example is government out of control - no one wants to take the responsiblity to put up a simple sign. Your example is a bigger problems but just think for a moment, if you want to have socialized medicine (not saying you but the public), this is what you will get. With all that new socialized medicine stuff, there will some protection afforded to the people who make the rules and the congress will not do a thing to help us, the people. Get the connection?
