I dont like seeing this get ugly, but I am planning a protest with vehicles like a Ford F350 standard pickup truck, which is rated over 10k lbs gvwr. A 2014 Chevy express 1500 standard size van with a V8 is rated at 12000lbs gvwr. Both can not be driven commercially across state lines with out a medical card.

Wonder what the gvwr is for an old VW bus is, with the steel and chrome it may be over 10klbs. Doubtful, but possibly I MAY qualify since I drove the 1965 Ford Falcon Van with the 170 engine for over 3 years, of course that was befor 1983. That van haf no trouble pulling a boat, 8 kids, 3 adults, and camping gear, not to mention an Airdale Terrier as well. Hummm, this is getting quite fun.

This will show just how unreasonable some of the regulation standards are.

Be careful what you wish for. The NHTSA did a study and now has the FMCSA following up to determine if all vehicles operated in interstate or intrastate commerce should have drivers be required to not only have a medical card, but a full-blown CDL. Those non-CDL trucks that many people are so fond of may soon be a thing of the past.

If the federal government could regulate greater-than 10,000 pound vehicles driven by citizens minding their own business they would. But they can't. The only reason they can regulate what they do now is because of the Interstate Commerce Clause of the Constitution. Everything else is up to the states.

Turtle, your are right about the government wanting to regulate everything that they can. In my opinion, many policy makers are control freaks that don't take in to the consideration of those that want to do the right thing, which they hurt their abilities to do so.

This is just like a few engineers that I worked with in the building trades, often their idea was great, but they overlooked a few details that made their design not possible to maintain or install. For example when I had to install a control device and couldn't get to the location due to the location being too high and the length of the lift arm was blocked by another piece of a equipment on the ground. He actually cussed at me about how my issue was impossible until he physically saw what the problem was.

Concerning people with disabilities, most know their limitations and we are very sensitive to people restricting us from having the ability that we can do. In my case I really got mad when MS. Papp said that I cant use CDL school training to help me qualify for the medical waiver, though two Doctors verified that my vision was well within the requirments. With formal training, don't you learn the correct procedures and will fail if you can not safely operate the truck? How do you get trained when you don't even have a chance to enroll in a professional training program. This is messed up.

Are people encouraged to get the experience by breaking the rules? That is not what guidelines are about, they are about people being able to Safely operate the vehicle they will use.

You do bring up a valid point, I don't want to mess up other peoples chances due to the government twisting the issue to their favor.
