Yes that a job is sometimes better than no job but McDonalds like many other fast food places don't really hire 'tweeners as they claim they do, so I would love to see their demographics on who they hired and who they rejected to see if it fits the national trend.

50,000................actually that's not a big deal. Do the math.........50,000 in 50 states............that's 1000 jobs per state. Divide that by the number of Mcdonald's franchises in each state and your talking a pretty small number.
Sounds good in the papers and on the news but it's really no big deal. They probably hire/fire that many each day anyways.

When the media talked about the lack of job creation when bush was at the end of his term, these were considered "burger flippin jobs" and nasty nancy and old man harry demeaned these jobs as nothing that would help the economy in any decent fashion...the media fell right in lne wth them bashing bush...but now....

It is what it is no matter the political tilt....people are down, any good news no matter makes the country a happier place...

Good point about doing the math. I probably never would thought have about the numbers in those terms. Did like the point in the article about starting at bottom and working your way up.

No way of knowing how many tweeners they hired, but old fogeys need work to:D

Actually they do..old timers like PT work....won't bother the pension income and not long hours....the company pays no benefits on PT hours so they are happy....why do ya think Walmart has seniors and the disabled as greeters?

Well it really is the problem for the 'tweeners because they haven't reached that retirement age where they will get medicare so many companies, like mcdonalds refuse to hire them. A lot of tech firms also don't want the expense of them when they have openings, which they hire college grads because they don't need the high wages.

But Greg McD's and Wally don't have a lot of full time hours....they keep them just under the limit...like in Ontario it's 28 hrs a week and the Gov mandates after that they have to pay Stat holidays and healthcare tax and such....so very few ever get benefits....OT is after 44hrs a week in Ont...so they watch hrs very closely....OT is a no,no for them...many balance 2 work schedules to make a living at it...

I don't know about ft and pt when it comes to the actual job, I do know that they won't hire 'tweeners and that is based on the age of the person and not their situation nor their ability to do the job.

A Manager might hire a tweener if they have too many youths and make them a team leader, and as you said if demographics of where the store is located often dictates the age of the staff...one close to schools is more apt to be loaded with PT kids, one close to senior centers will have more seniors and so on.....one out in the boonies with no bus service would have more tweeners...

A neighbor of mine from my youth has only worked for one company in his entire life. He started at McDonald's in high school
as a burger flipper and retired as the Dean of McDonald's University. And he bought a lot of stock along the way.
