Velocity, if it's the same company as up here in Michigan, delivers a lot of pharmaceutical (sp??) things. It's not so much expedited frieght as it is ya have a route that pays X amount a day. You'll have mostly hands on frieght that you'll put on a dolly & deliver to drug stores, doctors offices, etc.
In Atlanta it might not be so bad. In Michigan it's not something I'd want to do in the wintertime. I looked into signing on w/ em. I decided against it in part due to the nature of the freight. By this I mean there's a lot of standing around a warehouse in the early AM waiting for your freight so you can load it onto your truck. This is to be done by the driver of the truck (in this case it would have been me) in freezing cold weather. In the summer the weather would have been fine but I still wouldn't want to wait around for a couple of hours sorting out packages before I could start work.
Also, from what I was told by the workers there, that the route I was going to be getting paid $85 for on a given day used to pay $120, which is why the previous driver had left. Not sure of exact numbers, but the idea is right. That's why they were having a need for so many drivers, because they cut the rates.
Having said that, if what they're offering per day is enough for ya then it might not be a bad deal for ya.
Take care,
Danny
