I have been running the OH turnpike for the past few weeks and find I am classified either class 1 or 2. I know it is based on the height of the van and was told the QC is what triggered it to be a class 2. No explanation as to how it could be a class 1 one day and a 2 the second day. I think my speed when approaching the ticket dispenser is the key. Drive fast up to the booth and I am class one. Go slow and I am class two. I will be trying it more often in the future, wonder if anyone else is getting classified two different classes. I am not in a sprinter, just a standard ford econline.

Notice the pic about height and the notation underneath...

Do you have a QC and IF so is it in the front? and if so do you measure 7 foot 6" high?

Maybe a frontal antenia? something that is triggering the scanner?

Looks like the front of the van breaks the scan and thats where the measurement is taken..like a photo finish kinda...

A layer of snow and ice could also make a difference.

I do have a QC mounted at the rear of the van, no snow or ice accumulation. The supervisor at the toll booth told me to send my receipt to the commission and I may get a refund. The toll taker seemed to think each lane had sensitivity settings which might differ from one to another. I am just under 7"6 by a rough measurement.

sounds like just too close for some scanners and some scanners are not exactly the same...
Maybe a smaller profile tire on the front...I used to have 29" circumference on...now i am at 31".....so I am an inch taller!!

I had the same problem. I had a load from Pa to Garry IN ,I paid for 3 tolls $51. $20 PA toll ,$25 OH toll $6 IN toll. When I ask why ,they told me because of the QC. Now I will try the EZ PASS and I will see what will happen.... :(

There is NO discount for ez pass in PA or Ohio...just WV, Ind and Ill....

When Ohio joined the EZ Pass system, they hiked the rates for non EZ Pass users - that's your 'discount'!

So...you can't win!:) It is just unbelievable that I must pay for tolls $51 driving a cargo van from PA to IN...

The tolls are getting unreal...pretty soon we'll have to ask for toll money for the mid west!! anything PA/ Cleveland to the Chicago area we should be at least asking for toll money now...

So what class would I get with my C.B antenna on top of the van? it is at least 36" taller than the van roof.
