I just received a JOB POSTING thru my email for a Van driver job as follows:

Pickup tubs of mail at main post office and deliver 6 blocks to the Distribution center.....pay is 10 dollars....daily route....

Now Gas costs 3.50 a gallon, it would take at least two gallons to drive to the post office, stop and go traffic downtown, then 6 blocks stop and go, and deliver...

Youve used 7 bucks worth of gas....so your time is worth 3.00 dollars, and van usage, Insurance etc....PAY.....So you make 60 dollars a week, but you earn 18.00 dollars...WOW Im a movin on up, to a DEELUX apartment in the skyyyy...

Is this what the expedite logistics world has to offer....

No by hats courier work. I've got plenty of those stories from my past life. But those require a beer or two. Not while in service.

Couriers put 8-10 of those mail runs together. And those 8-10 run right after and before other short junk that works together.

Yes. A few of our couriers did lots of them. From and to the post office. And between buildings for multi-location companies in town.
But none of the deliveries were "designed" to run by themselves.

Yes, it's hard to look at a delivery you NEED, to complete a period during a bunch of daily schedules, and NOT price it too low. Honesty usually worked for me. "I need your mail run to wrap up the 0930-1000 & 1630-1700 periods but I can't give it away."
More often than not it worked well for the driver.

Two gallons of gas to get to work. How many people get their gas paid so they can get to work?

Living wage....ha thats what Ive been promised from several companys and then...real life goes WAP BAM OOPS....Im deciding what I need to make a living, then Ill propose that to someone, and then theyll tell me what they pay, and then there will be what I get....a living wage, 10 bucks to haul tubs of mail .....after the new truck is bought and paid for Ill be a little more aggressive on negotiating.....the classroom is about to close and the LIVING is about to begin...Maybe I can be like the Shipping Wars guys and string together some Alligators deliverys with some rock band gear and some tractor parts, and a few tubs of mail....and get the living wage.

because one is an owner operator...is there an expectation of big money?.....making 10 bucks an hour AFTER all expenses....some would call good and to be home every night and weekends....
